Meta Description

How do you see yourself? Too often, we define ourselves by our mistakes, our past, or other people’s opinions. Learn how to see yourself through God’s eyes and embrace the identity He has given you.

Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes

One thing I have learned is that the way we see ourselves matters.

If we constantly tell ourselves we are not good enough, eventually we will start believing it.

If we constantly compare ourselves to other people, we will begin to feel like we never measure up.

If we only focus on our mistakes, we will forget how much God has forgiven us.

The truth is, many of us spend more time listening to our own negative thoughts than listening to what God says about us.

I know because I have been there.

There have been times when I questioned myself.

Times when I wondered if I was doing enough.

Times when I compared myself to someone else.

Times when I focused more on what I thought I lacked than on what God had already given me.

Then God reminded me of something.

He never asked me to see myself through my own eyes.

He wants me to see myself through His.

That changes everything.

Because God’s view of me is completely different from the world’s view.

It is even different from the way I sometimes see myself.

We Are Our Own Biggest Critic

If I am being honest, I think many of us are harder on ourselves than anyone else.

We remember every mistake.

Every failure.

Every bad decision.

Every missed opportunity.

We replay those moments over and over again.

Sometimes we even allow our past to define our future.

But that is not how God works.

When He forgives us, He forgives us.

When He restores us, He restores us.

When He calls us His child, nothing can change that.

Why should I continue holding on to something that God has already forgiven?

That is a question I have had to ask myself.

God Sees More Than Our Mistakes

One thing I love about God is that He sees beyond our failures.

People may remember what we did.

God sees who we can become.

People may remind us of our past.

God reminds us of our future.

People may focus on our weaknesses.

God sees the gifts He placed inside us.

That gives me hope.

Because I know I am still growing.

I know I still have areas where God is working on me.

But I also know He has not given up on me.

📖 Philippians 1:6 (KJV)

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

I love that promise.

God is still working on me.

He is not finished yet.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

One thing that steals our joy is comparison.

We compare our lives.

Our jobs.

Our families.

Our finances.

Our ministries.

Our gifts.

Our appearance.

Our accomplishments.

The list could go on and on.

But God never called us to compare ourselves with anyone else.

He created each of us differently.

He gave each of us different gifts.

Different personalities.

Different purposes.

Different journeys.

If I spend my life trying to become someone else, I may miss becoming the person God created me to be.

That is why I have learned to thank God for the way He made me.

I may not be perfect.

But I am His.

And that is enough.

God Created You on Purpose

Sometimes people feel like they have no value.

Like they do not matter.

Like they have nothing to offer.

I want you to know that is not true.

God created you with purpose.

He did not make a mistake when He made you.

Everything about you was known by Him before you were even born.

📖 Psalm 139:14 (KJV)

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”

Think about that.

The God who created the heavens and the earth created you.

That alone tells me I have value.

Not because of anything I have done.

But because of who made me.

God Looks at the Heart

One thing that encourages me is knowing that God does not judge me the way people sometimes do.

People often look at appearances.

Achievements.

Titles.

Success.

God looks at the heart.

He sees our motives.

He sees our desires.

He sees our love for Him.

That reminds me not to spend so much time trying to impress people.

Instead, I want my life to please God.

Because His opinion matters more than anyone else’s.

Let’s Make This Practical

If you want to begin seeing yourself through God’s eyes, here are a few things that have helped me.

1. Spend Time in God’s Word

The Bible reminds us who we are in Christ.

The more we read it, the more our thinking begins to change.

2. Stop Speaking Negatively About Yourself

Your words matter.

Speak life over yourself.

Remind yourself of God’s promises instead of repeating your fears.

3. Stop Comparing Yourself

God has given you your own race to run.

Focus on His purpose for your life.

4. Remember That God Is Still Working

Do not judge yourself by where you are today.

Remember that God is still shaping your life.

5. Thank God for Who He Created You to Be

Gratitude changes perspective.

Instead of wishing you were someone else, thank God for the gifts and purpose He has given you.

You Are More Than Your Past

I know some people still struggle because of something they did years ago.

Maybe they made a bad decision.

Maybe they failed.

Maybe they hurt someone.

Maybe someone hurt them.

Whatever it is, they continue carrying it.

I want to remind you today that your past does not have the final word.

God does.

If He has forgiven you, then stop allowing your past to control your future.

Learn from it.

Grow from it.

But do not live there.

God has greater things ahead.

See Yourself the Way God Sees You

When God looks at you, He does not see someone without hope.

He sees His child.

He sees someone He loves.

He sees someone worth sending Jesus to die for.

Think about that.

Jesus gave His life because you mattered that much.

That truth should change the way we see ourselves.

Not with pride.

But with confidence in who God says we are.

Encourage Yourself

There are going to be days when other people do not encourage you.

Those are the days when you need to remind yourself of God’s truth.

Tell yourself,

“I am loved.”

“I am forgiven.”

“I am growing.”

“I am not finished.”

“God is still working on me.”

Those reminders help us shift our focus from our flaws to God’s faithfulness.

Final Thought: See Yourself Through God’s Eyes

If there is one thing I hope you take away from this, it is this:

Stop allowing your mistakes, your past, or other people’s opinions to define who you are.

Let God define you.

See yourself through His eyes.

He sees someone created with purpose.

He sees someone worth loving.

He sees someone worth saving.

He sees someone He is still shaping every single day.

I know I am not perfect.

I know I still have areas where I need to grow.

But I also know that God is not finished with me.

And if He is not finished with me, then I refuse to give up on myself.

I hope you will not give up on yourself either.

See yourself the way God sees you.

Because His opinion is the one that matters most.

📖 Romans 8:1 (KJV)

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…”

Reflection Questions

  • How have I been seeing myself lately?
  • Am I allowing my past or other people’s opinions to shape my identity?
  • What does God’s Word say about who I am?
  • Is there an area where I need to accept God’s forgiveness and move forward?
  • What is one truth about myself from Scripture that I can hold on to this week?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for creating me with purpose and loving me exactly where I am. Forgive me for the times I have allowed negative thoughts, comparison, or my past to shape the way I see myself instead of looking at myself through Your eyes.

Help me remember that I am Your workmanship and that You are still working in my life every day. Teach me to believe what Your Word says about me and not what fear, insecurity, or other people’s opinions try to tell me.

Give me the confidence to walk in the purpose You have for me and the humility to continue growing into the person You have called me to be. Thank You for Your grace, Your forgiveness, and Your unconditional love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

With Love,

Ty 🤍

  1. Today I’m choosing to see myself the way God sees me instead of through my fears, mistakes, or the opinions of others. I know I’m not perfect, but I also know that God created me with purpose and loves me unconditionally. His isn’t based on what I do or don’t do-it’s based on who He is. When I look at myself through God’s eyes, I see someone who is forgiven, valued, and worthy of His grace.
