Easter Is More Than What the World Sees

Current image: A glowing Easter sunrise over a calm landscape representing the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the true meaning of Easter centered on the cross and salvation.

Looking Beyond the Surface of Easter

Easter is not just about the Easter bunny, looking for eggs and candy, or even getting your outfit together.

That’s how the world looks at it.

And honestly, that’s what most people see.

It’s colorful.
It’s fun.
It’s something to look forward to.

But for those of us who truly follow Jesus…

We know it’s deeper than that.

Easter is about Jesus.

It’s about His sacrifice.
It’s about His love.
It’s about the power of Him getting up on that third day.

And once you understand that truth…

You can’t keep it to yourself.

You have to share it.

Especially with our children.

🌿 A Real Moment That Stayed With Me

I had a moment recently that really stayed with me.

My little cousin asked me if I was going to help him find Easter eggs and candy.

And I told him:

ā€œNo, I’ll be in church.ā€

He said, ā€œOkay.ā€

And that was it.

But later…

I couldn’t stop thinking about that moment.

Because I realized something:

I didn’t explain anything to him.

I didn’t take the time to tell him what Easter is really about.

I didn’t break it down in a way he could understand.

And even though he’s still young…

I still want him to know.

Because the truth is—

If we don’t teach them…

They won’t know.

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) says:

ā€œTrain up a child in the way he should goā€¦ā€

That means it starts with us.

Not later.

Not when they get older.

Now.

šŸ‘ Passover — God Always Makes a Way

To really understand Easter…

We have to go back.

Back to Passover.

In the Old Testament, God told His people to take the blood of a lamb and place it on their doorposts.

When death came through…

It passed over every house covered by the blood.

That blood meant:

Protection
Covering
Salvation

Exodus 12:13 (KJV) says:

ā€œWhen I see the blood, I will pass over youā€¦ā€

And when I think about that now…

I see Jesus.

Because Jesus became that Lamb for us.

He became the sacrifice so that we could be covered.

So that we wouldn’t have to face what we truly deserve.

That wasn’t just a story back then…

That was preparation.

That was pointing to Jesus all along.

āœļø Good Friday — Love That Sacrificed Everything

Then comes Good Friday.

The day Jesus was crucified.

He was beaten.
He was mocked.
He was nailed to the cross.

And the part that always touches me the most is this:

He didn’t have to do it.

He chose to.

He did it for me.
He did it for you.
He did it for all of us.

Isaiah 53:5 (KJV) says:

ā€œBut he was wounded for our transgressions… and with his stripes we are healed.ā€

That means every pain…

Every sin…

Every mistake…

He carried it.

Sometimes people see only sadness on Good Friday.

And yes, it is heavy.

But I also see love.

Because that kind of sacrifice…

Is love.

John 15:13 (KJV) says:

ā€œGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his lifeā€¦ā€

That’s what Jesus did.

šŸŒ… Easter Sunday — The Victory That Changed Everything

Now this is the part that fills my heart every time.

Jesus didn’t stay in that grave.

He got up.

The stone was rolled away.
The tomb was empty.
Death didn’t win.

Matthew 28:6 (KJV) says:

ā€œHe is not here: for he is risenā€¦ā€

And when I think about that…

It gives me joy I can’t even fully explain.

Because if Jesus got up…

That means:

There is still hope
There is still life
There is still victory

No matter what it looks like.

1 Corinthians 15:55 (KJV) says:

ā€œO death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?ā€

The grave lost.

Jesus won.

And because He won…

We win.

🌿 Why This Matters for Our Children

This is why we have to teach our children.

Because they don’t know.

They are only going to know what they see.

And what they see right now is:

Eggs
Candy
Baskets
Fun

And again—there’s nothing wrong with those things.

But we cannot stop there.

We have to go deeper.

We have to help them understand:

The Lamb represents Jesus
The cross represents sacrifice
The empty tomb represents victory

Because if we don’t plant that truth now…

The world will fill that space with something else.

🌿 Teaching Them in Simple Ways

And it doesn’t have to be complicated.

You don’t have to preach a whole sermon.

Just keep it simple.

You can say:

ā€œJesus loves you so much that He died for you. But He didn’t stay dead—He came back to life so we can live too.ā€

That’s enough.

As they grow…

They’ll understand more.

But it starts with us planting the seed.

Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (KJV) says:

ā€œThese words… shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy childrenā€¦ā€

That means teaching them is not optional.

It’s a responsibility.

🌿 Easter Is a Reminder for Us Too

And this message is not just for children.

It’s for us too.

Because sometimes…

We forget.

We get caught up in life.

We get distracted.

We start focusing more on traditions than truth.

But Easter brings us back.

It reminds us that:

God makes a way
Jesus paid the price
Victory is already ours

Romans 5:8 (KJV) says:

ā€œBut God commendeth his love toward us… while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.ā€

That means He loved us before we had it together.

Before we got it right.

Before we understood.

That’s the kind of love Easter represents.

🌿 Bringing It All Together

When I look at Easter now…

I don’t just see what the world sees.

I see the full picture.

Passover — the covering
Good Friday — the sacrifice
Easter Sunday — the victory

And I’m reminded:

This is not something to keep to myself.

This is something to share.

With family.
With children.
With anyone willing to hear.

Because Jesus didn’t go through all of that…

For us to stay silent.

šŸ™šŸ¾ Prayer

Lord, thank You for sending Jesus to die for us and for raising Him again. Thank You for the sacrifice, the love, and the victory we have through You. Help me to never forget the true meaning of Easter. And help me to share it with others, especially the children. Give me the words to teach them in a way they can understand. Let Your truth be planted in their hearts so it can grow as they grow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

🌿 Thought for Today

Don’t just celebrate Easter—understand it, live it, and share it.

Reflection Questions

1.Do I truly see Easter as the resurrection of Jesus, or have I focused more on traditions?

2.What ā€œdead situationsā€ in my life do I need to stop revisiting and trust God has already handled?

3.How can I balance fun traditions while still teaching the truth about Jesus?

4.Who can I share the true meaning of Easter with this season?

  1. Jamall Spence

Easter reminds me that Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for a person like me. He gave his life so that we all could be saved. It’s a commercial holiday to most but I always make sure to let someone know the true meaning of Easter. I reminisce on being in church on Easter Sunday and being proud to say my Easter speech and spending the time to learn it the best I could.
Thank you Lord for everything and all your blessings!!!

  2. There’s a song that says He got up! Death could not hold Him! My savior He got up! That empty grave is there to prove my savior He got up! The day hell lost and heaven won. Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. He rose up with power, shattered death, and walked out victorious. The grave couldn’t hold Him, and it never will. The ultimate victory. Darkness thought it had won, but it didn’t know who it was dealing with. Jesus rose up, conquered death, and changed everything for all time. When the impossible became reality. The stone rolled away, the grave was empty, and Jesus walked out alive. Death tried, but it failed. Victory belongs to Him.
