You Want God to Move, But You Won’t (Stop Asking God for More While Giving Him Less)

Current image: a man standing in prayer inside a church surrounded by wooden pews and an open Bible. The text says “You Want God to Move, But You Won’t” with the subtitle “Stop asking God for more while giving Him less.

Meta Description:

Are you asking God to move in your life while avoiding what He’s asking you to do? Learn why obedience, worship, and making time for God matter in your spiritual growth.

I Had to Be Honest With Myself

There was a time I kept asking God to move in my life.

I was praying.
I was asking Him for help.
I was asking Him to open doors.
I wanted things to change.

And sometimes things would seem to be finally moving in the right direction.

Then all of a sudden…

👉 Everything would stop.

It felt like I kept getting so close…

Only to end up right back where I started.

And I couldn’t understand why.

I kept thinking:

“Lord, what am I doing wrong?”

Because in my mind…

I felt like I was doing what I needed to do.

But then I had to really sit back and think about something:

I wanted God to move… but I wasn’t moving in His direction.

Sometimes We Want the Blessings Without the Commitment

A lot of us want:

  • Open doors
  • Favor
  • Growth
  • Breakthrough
  • Blessings

But we don’t always want to:

  • Sacrifice time
  • Be obedient
  • Show up consistently
  • Give God what He deserves

And God had to show me:

👉 Prayer alone is not enough if your heart is not fully committed.

I Was Giving God Time — But Only on My Terms

I was praying at home.
Reading my Bible at home.
Praising Him at home.

And I kept thinking:

“Lord, I’m already doing all this… so why aren’t things opening up for me?”

And that’s when I realized something important:

Yes, you can worship God at home.

But it’s not the same as refusing to spend time with Him in His house when He’s calling you there.

What the Bible Says About Gathering Together

📖 Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”

God never intended for us to do this walk completely alone.

There is something powerful about:

  • Gathering together
  • Worshiping together
  • Being in God’s presence together

Church is not just a building.

It’s a place where:
👉 Faith grows
👉 Strength is restored
👉 God speaks
👉 Chains break

God Was Showing Me the Problem

I had to stop making excuses.

And let’s be real…

We all have them.

We say:

  • “I have to work.”
  • “I’m tired.”
  • “The drive is too long.”
  • “Service is too long.”
  • “I don’t really like the people there.”
  • “My family needs me.”
  • “I can worship at home.”

And while some of those things may sound reasonable…

God is saying:

👉 “I still make ways for you every single day.”

We Make Time for What Matters to Us

This hit me hard.

Because if we’re honest…

We make time for the things we really want to do.

We will:

  • Go shopping
  • Hang out with friends
  • Drive long distances for events
  • Stay up late for entertainment

But when it comes to God…

Suddenly, we’re too busy.

And God had to show me:

👉 “You want Me to move into your life, but you won’t move for Me.”

Obedience Opens Doors

Let me say this clearly.

Some doors are not opening because God is waiting on your obedience.

Not your excuses.

Not your temporary effort.

👉 Your obedience.

📖 Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)

“If thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God… all these blessings shall come on thee…”

Blessings are connected to obedience.

God Wants More Than Convenience

Sometimes we only give God what’s convenient.

If we feel like it…
If we’re not tired…
If nothing else is going on…

Then we’ll show up.

But real commitment says:

👉 “God, You come first.”

Even when:

  • I’m tired
  • I had a long week
  • I don’t feel like it
  • I could be doing something else

It’s Not About Religion — It’s About Relationship

Let’s make this clear.

This is not about:

  • Being religious
  • Checking a box
  • Looking spiritual

It’s about a relationship.

Because when you truly love someone…

👉 You make time for them.

And God deserves our time, too.

What Happens When You Stop Moving Toward God

When you stop moving toward God:

  • You become spiritually dry
  • You lose motivation
  • You feel stuck
  • You feel disconnected

And then you wonder:

👉 “Why does it feel like nothing is changing?”

Sometimes it’s because:
👉 God is waiting on YOU to move.

I Had to Realize God Wanted More From Me

God had to show me something deeper.

He wanted:

  • My time
  • My obedience
  • My presence
  • My consistency

Not just:

  • My prayers when I needed something
  • My praise is only at home
  • My attention only when life got hard

Church Is More Than Just Showing Up

Being in the house of the Lord matters.

Not because God is limited to a building…

But because:

  • It builds discipline
  • It strengthens your faith
  • It keeps you connected
  • It reminds you who God is

📖 Psalm 122:1 (KJV)

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.”

David understood the importance of being in God’s house.

Stop Letting Excuses Block Your Blessings

This is the part people don’t always want to hear.

Some blessings are being delayed because excuses are in the way.

Excuses will keep you:

  • Comfortable
  • Distracted
  • Spiritually stagnant

And the enemy loves that.

Because as long as you stay distracted…

👉 You stay stuck.

When I Started Moving, Things Started Changing

I noticed something.

When I stopped making excuses…
When I became more intentional…
When I gave God my time…

👉 Things started shifting.

Not overnight.

But slowly:

  • My mindset changed
  • My peace increased
  • Doors started opening
  • I felt spiritually stronger

Because I was finally moving toward God instead of expecting Him to do everything while I stayed still.

God Wants Effort Too

Let’s be real.

Faith without effort becomes lazy.

📖 James 2:17 (KJV)

“Faith, if it hath not works, is dead…”

You can’t keep saying:
👉 “God move.”

While refusing to move yourself.

Sometimes God is saying:

👉 “Take the step first.”
👉 “Show up first.”
👉 “Be obedient first.”

Don’t Just Seek God for What He Can Do

This is important.

Don’t go to church…
Pray…
Or worship…

ONLY because you want something.

Do it because:

  • You love God
  • You honor Him
  • You want a relationship with Him

Because real worship is not transactional.

It’s personal.

What I Learned From This Season

I learned that:

  • God deserves my time
  • Excuses can block growth
  • Obedience matters
  • Worship matters
  • Consistency matters

And I learned something else, too:

👉 God was never the one holding me back.

Sometimes…

I was holding myself back.

Final Thought: Move Toward God and Watch Him Move

So if you’ve been asking God to:

  • Open doors
  • Change things
  • Move in your life

Ask yourself this honestly:

👉 “Am I moving toward Him too?”

Because God is not asking for perfection.

He’s asking for:

  • Commitment
  • Obedience
  • Time
  • Relationship

Stop letting excuses keep you from the very thing that could change your life.

Make time for God.

Move toward Him.

And watch what happens when you do.

Reflection Questions

  • What excuses have I been making when it comes to God?
  • Am I truly giving God my time and commitment?
  • Have I been expecting God to move while staying spiritually still?
  • What changes do I need to make in my relationship with Him?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for always being patient with me, even when I make excuses or fail to give You the time You deserve. Help me to stop putting other things before You and to move toward You with a willing heart.

Teach me to be obedient, committed, and consistent in my relationship with You. Remove every excuse, distraction, and mindset that keeps me from growing spiritually. Help me to seek You not just for blessings, but because I truly love You and want to please You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
