Stop Worrying About What Others Are Not Doing

There was a time when I struggled deeply with this, and I’m going to be honest because I know I’m not the only one. I used to get frustrated watching other people not do what they were supposed to do while I was still doing my part. I would think to myself:

“Why do I have to keep doing this when they are not doing anything?”
“Why am I always the one stepping up?”
“Why am I being asked to help when others could do it themselves?”

I felt tired. I felt overlooked. And sometimes, if I’m honest, I felt annoyed.

I would look around and compare effort. I would notice who was working and who wasn’t. I would question why I had to keep giving a helping hand when others seemed comfortable doing less.

But over time, God started showing me something deeper.

He wasn’t trying to change them through me — He was shaping me through the situation.

God Is Watching Your Obedience — Not Their Effort

One of the hardest lessons God taught me was that my assignment is not based on what others are doing. My responsibility is tied to my obedience, not someone else’s performance.

When I kept asking, “Why do I have to do this when they aren’t?” God gently reminded me:

“Focus on what I asked you to do.”

It wasn’t about fairness. It was about faithfulness.

Sometimes we spend so much energy watching others that we lose sight of our own calling. We compare effort, measure commitment, and start carrying frustration instead of purpose.

But God doesn’t measure us by comparison — He measures us by obedience.

Colossians 3:23 (KJV) says:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

That scripture changed how I looked at everything.

I realized I wasn’t working for people — I was serving God through what I was doing.

And once I understood that, the frustration started to lose its power.

Your Assignment Is Still Your Assignment — Even If Others Don’t Move

There will be seasons when you feel like you are the only one pulling your weight.

At work.
At church.
In relationships.
In ministry.

You might feel like you’re carrying more than your share while others sit back.

And yes — that feeling is real.

But God showed me something important: just because someone else chooses not to move does not mean you stop moving. Your obedience cannot be dependent on someone else’s willingness.

Galatians 6:9 (KJV) says:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

That means don’t stop just because others slow down. Don’t quit because you feel alone.

Don’t give up because others are not showing up. God sees your consistency. And He rewards faithfulness, not comparison.

Comparison Steals Peace — Focus Restores Purpose

I used to spend too much time thinking about what others were not doing instead of focusing on what God wanted me to do. And honestly, that mindset drains you.

Comparison leads to:

  • resentment
  • frustration
  • bitterness
  • distraction

Instead of walking forward, you get stuck looking sideways. God showed me that comparison pulls your eyes off Him.

Hebrews 12:1–2 (KJV) says:

“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus…”

Notice it says the race set before us. Not someone else’s race. Not someone else’s pace. Not someone else’s calling. Your race is personal. And when you focus on God rather than on others, peace begins to return.

Let God Handle Those Who Are Slowful

One thing I had to learn is that it is not my job to fix everyone. Yes, we help when God leads us. Yes, we support when needed. But worrying about people who aren’t doing what they should is exhausting — and honestly, it takes energy away from your own growth. God told me clearly: “Do your part. Let me handle the rest.” And that brought freedom.

Romans 12:19 (KJV) says:

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves… for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

God knows who is working. God knows who is avoiding responsibility. God knows who is growing and who is not. You don’t have to carry that burden. Let Him deal with it.

The Same Effort You Give at Work Should Show Up Even Stronger in Your Walk With God

Think about it. When things are not right at work, do you just stop going?

No. You keep showing up. You keep doing your job. You keep moving forward because you understand responsibility. But when it comes to church or serving God, sometimes people step back or quit because they feel frustrated with others. And God showed me something: The effort we give in the world should never exceed the effort we give in our relationship with Him.

1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV) says:

“…be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord…”

Even when others are inconsistent. Even when things feel unfair. Even when you feel alone. Keep showing up.

God Is Using the Situation to Grow You

I finally realized that God allowed me to be in situations where others were not doing their part — not to punish me, but to strengthen me.

He was teaching me:

  • patience
  • humility
  • endurance
  • focus

He was teaching me to serve without needing recognition. To work without comparison. To stay faithful without complaint.

James 1:3–4 (KJV) says:

“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”

Sometimes the real lesson isn’t about changing others. It’s about transforming you.

Keep Your Eyes on God — Not on the Crowd

The more I stopped worrying about what others were not doing, the more peace I felt. I realized my race is not about them. My race is about getting closer to God. Yes, situations might upset you sometimes. Yes, you might feel tired. Yes, you might feel overlooked. But remember why you started. You are running toward God. And His timing is always better than ours.

Psalm 37:5 (KJV) says:

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

Trust Him. Let Him work on those who are slothful. Let Him correct what needs correction. You just keep moving forward.

Encouragement for You

If you feel like you’re the only one doing your part right now, I want you to hear this:

God sees you.

God knows your heart.

God honors your obedience.

Stop worrying about what others are not doing. Focus on what God has placed in your hands. Your faithfulness matters. Your obedience matters. Your consistency matters. And one day, you will understand why God asked you to keep going when others stood still.

  1. It’s not about what everyone else is doing. It’s about me. God isn’t measuring my life against their effort, their hustle, or how visible their sacrifices are. God isn’t asking me to carry other people assignment. He’s asking me to be faithful with mine. At the end of the day, I don’t want to stand before God having lived according to comparisons. I want to stand before Him knowing that I listened, when He spoke I responded.
