Meta Description

A faith-filled devotional about learning to let go, trusting God with what we cannot control, releasing the past, and finding peace by placing everything in His hands.

Letting Go and Trusting God

Letting go is not always easy. In fact, for many of us, it is one of the hardest things we will ever have to do. We often hold on to things longer than we should — situations, emotions, disappointments, or even people — because holding on can feel safer than releasing them.

Sometimes we hold on because we are afraid of what might happen if we let go. Other times we hold on because we are used to carrying the weight. We may not even realize how heavy the burden has become until we stop and take a breath.

But one thing I have learned in my walk with God is that holding on too tightly can weigh us down.

God never intended for us to carry everything on our own. There comes a time when we must release what we are holding and trust God to take over.

Trusting God does not mean we will never feel unsure or uncomfortable. It simply means we choose to believe that He knows what is best for us, even when we do not fully understand the process.

Letting go is an act of faith.

It is saying, “Lord, I give this to You because I know You can handle it better than I can.”

Learning to Release What We Cannot Control

Many of us struggle with letting go because we want to stay in control. We want to know how things will turn out. We want answers right away. We want to know when the situation will change and how everything will work out.

But the truth is, control is something we often think we have when we really don’t. Only God sees the full picture. When we try to control every detail of our lives, we often end up feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and emotionally exhausted.

I have had moments where I tried to figure everything out on my own. I wanted to solve the situation, fix the problem, and make everything work the way I thought it should.

But I realized that when I tried to carry everything myself, it only made things heavier. Letting go does not mean giving up. It means releasing what we cannot control and placing it in God’s hands. It means trusting that God is working behind the scenes even when we cannot see immediate results.

Psalm 55:22 (KJV) reminds us:

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

That scripture speaks deeply to me because it reminds me that God actually invites us to give Him our burdens. He does not want us walking around feeling heavy, discouraged, and worn down. He promises to sustain us when we trust Him enough to release what we are carrying.

Trusting God Even When It’s Hard

Trusting God can be easy when life is going well. It is easier to believe everything will work out when circumstances seem peaceful, and things are going our way. But trusting God becomes much harder when life does not look the way we expected. There are moments when prayers seem unanswered. Moments when doors feel closed. Moments when patience is stretched, and our faith is tested. In those moments, trusting God requires faith beyond our feelings.

I have learned that trusting God means believing that He is still good even when life feels uncertain. It means choosing faith over fear. It means choosing peace over constant worry.

When I let go of my expectations and trust God’s timing, I find comfort knowing that He has already worked things out in ways I may not understand yet.

Proverbs 3:5 (KJV) reminds us:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Sometimes we want explanations. We want to understand why certain things happen or why certain doors close. But God’s wisdom is greater than our understanding. When we trust Him, we are choosing to believe that He knows what we cannot see.

Letting Go of the Past

One of the hardest things many of us struggle with is letting go of the past.

Old hurts, mistakes, regrets, disappointments, and painful memories can stay in our hearts if we allow them to. The past can sometimes feel like it still has control over our present. But God does not want us living in yesterday when He has new blessings prepared for today.

Isaiah 43:18–19 (KJV) says:

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…”

That scripture reminds me that God is always doing something new in our lives. Letting go of the past does not mean pretending it never happened. It simply means we stop allowing it to control our future. It means we allow God to heal the wounds, restore our hearts, and guide us toward something better. When we trust God with our past, we give Him permission to restore, renew, and redirect our future.

Freedom Comes With Letting Go

There is a freedom that comes when we finally release what we have been holding onto for so long.

Freedom from stress.

Freedom from worry.

Freedom from constantly trying to fix everything ourselves.

Letting go brings peace because we realize that we no longer have to carry the weight alone. When we trust God, we begin to rest. We realize that everything does not have to be solved immediately. God is faithful to handle every detail in His perfect time. Our responsibility is to trust Him and walk in obedience.

Psalm 46:10 (KJV) reminds us:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Being still does not mean doing nothing. It means trusting God enough to stop worrying and allow Him to work. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply releasing control and allowing God to move.

Walking Forward in Faith

Letting go and trusting God does not always happen overnight. Sometimes it is a process. We may have to remind ourselves daily that God is in control. We may have to pray again and again until our hearts feel peace.

But each time we release something to God, we grow stronger in our faith. We begin to understand that God truly is capable of handling everything we bring to Him.

Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV) encourages us:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

When we pray and give our worries to God, His peace begins to guard our hearts. That peace is something the world cannot give.

  1. When my heart feels tired and things don’t make sense, I still trust God. I know He’s holding my life in His hands and leading me through every challenge. I have to remind myself that His plan is bigger than my pain, and He’s guiding me me even when the path is hard. ( trusting God even when it’s hard).
