Grateful for God’s Daily Mercies

Meta Description:

A faith-filled devotional about recognizing God’s daily mercies, living with gratitude, and learning to extend grace and compassion to others just as God does for us.

Grateful for God’s Daily Mercies

Each day, I thank God for His mercies. When I wake up in the morning, I don’t take it lightly. I understand that God didn’t have to allow me to see another day—but He did. And that alone is enough for me to be grateful.

Sometimes we wake up and jump straight into our day without even pausing to acknowledge God. But I’ve learned to slow down and say, “Thank You, Lord.” Because waking up is not something we should ever take for granted. His mercies are new every morning.

That means no matter what happened yesterday, no matter what mistakes were made, no matter how we may have fallen short—God gives us another chance. And that right there is love.

His Mercy Meets Us Every Morning

One thing I truly love about God is that He never gives up on us. No matter how many times we fall, His mercy is still there waiting for us. Every morning we wake up is proof that God is extending mercy once again.

Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV) says:

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

That scripture humbles me every time I read it. Because mercy is not something we earn. It’s something God freely gives. And when I think about all the times I didn’t deserve it, yet He still covered me, protected me, and kept me—it makes me even more thankful. God’s mercy has kept me when I didn’t even realize I needed keeping.

God’s Mercy Has Protected Me

When I look back over my life, I can clearly see where God’s mercy stepped in. There were times I could have made the wrong decisions. I could have gone down the wrong path. I could have allowed my emotions to take control. But somehow, God’s mercy covered me.

Psalm 103:10 (KJV) says:

“He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.”

That means God does not treat us based on what we deserve. If he did, things would look very different. Instead, He shows us grace. He shows us patience. He gives us chances to grow, learn, and do better. That is something I will never take lightly.

Recognizing When We Take Mercy for Granted

I can be honest and say that there have been times when I took God’s mercy for granted. Times when I didn’t pause to say thank you. Times when I expected grace from God, but didn’t always extend that same grace to others. That’s when God began to deal with my heart. Because it’s easy to receive mercy—but it’s not always easy to give it. When I think about Jesus and the sacrifice He made, it puts everything into perspective.

Romans 5:8 (KJV) says:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus didn’t wait for us to get everything right. He died for us while we were still imperfect. That’s mercy. When I think about that kind of love, it makes me want to live differently.

Living Like Christ Means Showing Mercy

If I say that I am living for Christ and striving to be more like Him, then mercy has to be a part of my walk. We cannot ask God for mercy while refusing to show it to others. There will be times when people hurt us. Times when people disappoint us. Times when people don’t treat us the way we feel we deserve. But mercy reminds us that we are not perfect either.

Matthew 5:7 (KJV) says:

“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”

That scripture reminds me that mercy is not just something we receive—it is something we must give. God didn’t turn His back on us. So we shouldn’t be so quick to turn our backs on others.

Extending Mercy in Everyday Life

Showing mercy does not mean allowing people to mistreat you or ignoring wrong behavior. It means choosing compassion over harshness. It means responding with grace instead of reacting out of anger.

Mercy can look like:

• Being patient with someone who is struggling
• Choosing forgiveness instead of holding a grudge
• Listening instead of judging
• Giving someone another chance
• Speaking with kindness instead of frustration

Colossians 3:12 (KJV) says:

“Put on therefore… kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.”

These are the characteristics of someone who walks in mercy. The truth is, God sees how we treat people—even in the moments when no one else is watching.

Mercy Changes the Way We Live

When you truly understand God’s mercy, it changes you. It changes how you speak, respond, and how you treat others.

Instead of being quick to judge, you become more understanding. Instead of reacting quickly, you pause. Instead of holding onto things, you learn to release them.

James 2:13 (KJV) says:

“Mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”

That means mercy wins. Mercy brings peace. Mercy reflects God. And when we walk in mercy, we begin to look more like Him.

What Are You Doing With the Mercy You’ve Been Given?

These are the questions I had to ask myself: What am I doing with the mercy God has shown me? Am I reflecting His love in my actions? Am I extending grace the same way He extends it to me?

Because the truth is, we all want mercy. We want God to forgive us. We want Him to be patient with us. We want Him to give us another chance. But we also have to be willing to do the same for others.

Luke 6:36 (KJV) says:

“Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”

When we live with that mindset, it changes everything.

Gratitude for God’s Mercy

Being grateful for God’s daily mercies should not just be something we say—it should be something we live. Gratitude shifts our perspective. We are blessed, covered, and we are loved by God.

Psalm 118:24 (KJV) says:

“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Every day is a new opportunity. A new chance, a new beginning, and God’s mercy are what make that possible.
