When you do not know how your needs will be met, you can still trust God. He knows what you need, when you need it, and how to provide in ways you may never expect.
There comes a time when you have to stop staring at what you do not have and start remembering who your Provider is.
I have been in situations where I needed something and did not know exactly how it was going to work out. Before, I probably would have stressed myself out trying to figure out every detail.
Where is it going to come from?
Who is going to help me?
How am I going to take care of this?
What am I going to do if it does not work out?
Now, I am learning to approach those situations differently.
“Lord, You already know what I need. I am asking You to provide it or show me what I need to do.”
Then I have to trust Him.
That does not mean I sit around and do nothing. If God gives me something to do, I need to obey. If He gives me an opportunity, I need to recognize it. If He sends someone to help, I need to be willing to receive that help.
But I do not have to spend every moment worrying about how everything is going to come together.
God already knows.
And I know from experience that He can provide.
I Have Seen Him Do It Before
Sometimes when another need comes up, we forget about the last time God came through.
Isn’t that something?
God can bring us through one situation, and then another situation comes along, and suddenly we are worried all over again.
We start acting like this is the first time we have ever needed Him.
I have to remind myself:
“Wait a minute. God has already provided for me before.”
There were things I prayed about, and He handled them.
There were situations I could not see my way through, and somehow a way was made.
There were times when the answer did not come exactly when I wanted it, but it came when I needed it.
So why should I believe He suddenly stopped being God?
That is what I have to tell myself when doubt tries to show up.
If He did it before, I know He can do it again.
It may not happen the same way.
It may not come through the same person.
It may not happen on my schedule.
But God knows how to provide.
Need and Want Are Two Different Things
This is something we have to be honest about.
Everything I want is not necessarily something I need.
I may want God to provide something because I have already decided I should have it.
God may look at that same situation and say, “You don’t need that right now.”
That can be hard to accept.
We pray for what we want and sometimes expect God to agree with us.
But He knows the difference between a need and a desire.
Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Notice it says need.
God knows exactly what I need.
Sometimes what I need is financial.
Sometimes I need strength.
Sometimes I need wisdom.
Sometimes I need peace.
Sometimes I need somebody trustworthy to talk to.
Sometimes I need a door opened.
And sometimes I need a door closed.
Provision is bigger than money.
God Can Provide in Ways You Were Not Expecting
This is one reason I try not to tell God exactly how He has to answer me.
We can pray for help and then create the whole plan ourselves.
“Lord, I need You to do this, through this person, by this day, and make it happen this way.”
What happens if God has another way?
Maybe the person you expected to help cannot help.
Maybe the opportunity you were counting on falls through.
Maybe the answer comes from somewhere you never considered.
That does not mean God is not providing.
It may mean His provision looks different from your expectation.
We have to leave room for God to be God.
I want to pray:
“Lord, this is what I need. However You choose to handle it, help me recognize Your hand in it.”
I Cannot Put All My Dependence on People
People can be a blessing.
God has placed wonderful people in our lives who genuinely want to help us.
There is nothing wrong with receiving help.
But people cannot be my source for everything.
People get tired.
People have their own responsibilities.
People may want to help but simply cannot.
Someone may promise something and not be able to follow through.
If all my confidence is in a person, I can become disappointed very quickly.
My confidence has to be in God.
And yes, God may use people.
He may send somebody at exactly the right time.
But I want to remember that the person is not the ultimate source.
God is.
Psalm 121:1–2 (KJV)
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord…”
That is where I want my eyes.
Provision May Come With Instructions
Sometimes we are waiting for God to provide while ignoring what He already told us to do.
That is something we have to think about.
Maybe we are praying about finances, but God has been showing us that we need to manage our money differently.
Maybe we are asking for another opportunity, but we have not taken care of the one already in front of us.
Maybe we are asking Him to change something while refusing to make changes ourselves.
Trust and obedience go together.
If I ask God to provide and He gives me instructions, I need to listen.
The answer may require me to move.
Apply.
Save.
Wait.
Ask.
Learn.
Prepare.
Let something go.
God’s provision does not always fall into our hands without responsibility attached to it.
What Happens While You Are Waiting?
This is where trust gets tested.
You prayed.
Nothing happened yet.
You prayed again.
Still nothing.
Now what?
Do you panic?
Do you decide God forgot you?
Do you try to force something to happen?
Waiting can make us uncomfortable because we want proof that something is happening.
But God can be working when we cannot see anything changing.
Matthew 6:31–32 (KJV)
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink?… for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
I love the reminder that our Father knows.
Before I finish explaining my need, He knows.
Before I start worrying, He knows.
Before I ask anyone else, He knows.
Waiting does not mean He is unaware.
Sometimes the Provision Is Peace While You Wait
We often think provision means the situation immediately disappears.
Not always.
Sometimes God provides peace before He provides the answer.
The bill may still be there.
The decision may still need to be made.
The situation may not have changed yet.
But somehow you are not falling apart anymore.
You have peace.
You can sleep.
You can pray and say, “God, I don’t know how You are going to handle this, but I believe You will.”
That peace is provision too.
Sometimes the first thing God changes is not the situation.
He changes how we are carrying it.
Don’t Let Pride Keep You From Receiving
There may also be times when God provides through somebody else, and pride makes us uncomfortable.
We want to handle everything ourselves.
We do not want anyone to know we need help.
But if you prayed for provision and God sends help, receive it with gratitude.
There is no shame in going through a season where you need support.
Just remember the help is not something to take advantage of.
If someone blesses you, be thankful.
If you are later in a position to bless someone else, remember what it felt like when you needed help.
Provision should create gratitude, not entitlement.
God Can Provide What Money Cannot Buy
Some of the greatest things I need cannot be purchased.
I need peace.
Money cannot guarantee that.
I need wisdom.
Money cannot buy godly wisdom.
I need love.
I need strength.
I need encouragement.
I need God’s presence.
I need people around me who genuinely care.
Sometimes we are so focused on financial provision that we overlook everything God is already giving us.
You may not have everything you want right now, but look around.
What has God already provided?
Did He give you another day?
Did He put food on the table?
Did He give you someone you can call?
Did He give you strength to get through something you thought would break you?
Did He give you peace in a difficult season?
Do not overlook those things because you are waiting for something else.
Provision Does Not Mean We Become Careless
Trusting God does not mean being irresponsible.
I cannot spend everything I have and then say, “God will provide.”
I cannot ignore responsibilities and call that faith.
God gives us wisdom too.
If He provides resources, I want to take care of them.
If He gives me income, I need to manage it.
If He gives me an opportunity, I need to appreciate it.
If He gives me something I prayed for, I do not want to become careless with it once I receive it.
Sometimes we are praying for more when we need to become better stewards of what we already have.
Look Back When You Start to Doubt
When I start feeling uncertain, one of the best things I can do is remember.
Remember what God already brought me through.
Remember the prayer He answered.
Remember the unexpected blessing.
Remember the time something worked out when I did not know how it would.
Those memories strengthen my faith.
I can say:
“Lord, I remember what You did then. I need You now, and I still trust You.”
God’s past faithfulness gives me a reason to trust Him with what is happening today.
Whatever You Need, Take It to God
Maybe your need right now is not money.
Maybe you need encouragement because you are feeling down.
Maybe you need direction.
Maybe you need strength because you are tired.
Maybe you need peace in your home.
Maybe you need an opportunity.
Maybe you need healing in a relationship.
Maybe you simply need to know that you are not alone.
Take it to God.
Do not assume your need is too small.
Do not think He does not care.
Talk to Him.
Tell Him exactly where you are.
Then pay attention.
His answer may not look like what you pictured.
Final Thoughts: God Got It
I know that is simple, but sometimes simple is what I need.
God got it.
When I do not know how something is going to work out, God knows.
When I do not know where the answer is coming from, God knows.
When I am waiting and nothing seems to be moving, God knows.
I do not want to go back to stressing myself out trying to control everything.
I have been there.
I would worry.
Think.
Stress.
Try to figure out every possible solution.
Now I want my first response to be different.
“Lord, You know what I need. Please provide it, show me what to do, and help me trust You while I wait.”
Then I have to obey whatever He tells me.
Maybe He tells me to wait.
Maybe He sends someone.
Maybe He opens a door.
Maybe He gives me an idea.
Maybe He shows me how to use what I already have.
However He chooses to provide, I want to recognize it and thank Him.
We cannot always depend on people because people have limitations.
But I know Someone who has shown up for me before.
God.
And I believe He will continue to provide according to His will.
So when you are in need, go to Him.
When you need help, go to Him.
When you feel down, go to Him.
When you do not know what to do next, go to Him.
And while you are waiting, do not forget what He has already done.
Whatever you need, God has it.
You may not know when.
You may not know how.
But keep praying.
Keep obeying.
Keep trusting.
Keep doing your part.
And when God provides, do not forget to turn around and say:
“Lord, thank You. I knew You would come through.”

A Few Questions to Think About
- What do I need to place in God’s hands right now?
- Am I trusting God, or am I stressing myself out trying to figure out everything?
- Has God already given me instructions that I need to obey?
- What are some ways God has provided for me in the past?
- Have I overlooked something God has already provided because I am focused on what I still want?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being my Provider.
You already know what I need before I even ask. Forgive me for the times I have worried, stressed, and doubted because I could not see how things were going to work out.
Lord, I place my needs in Your hands.
Provide what I need according to Your will. If there is something You need me to do, show me and help me obey. If I need to wait, give me patience. If You send help through someone else, help me receive it with gratitude.
Remind me of all the times You have already come through for me. When doubt tries to enter my mind, help me remember Your faithfulness.
Give me wisdom to take care of what You have already placed in my hands, and keep me from overlooking the blessings I already have while waiting for something else.
I trust You, Lord.
I may not know how You are going to do it, but I know You know exactly what I need.
Thank You in advance for Your provision, Your direction, Your peace, and Your love.
