When Your Space Starts Taking Over You
I’m going to be real—I don’t like a lot of stuff in my home.
I just can’t do it.
When there’s too much around me, it doesn’t feel peaceful—it feels overwhelming. It starts to feel like the stuff is running the house… and running me too. I can’t think straight, I can’t move the way I want to, and I definitely can’t feel calm.
And I had to ask myself something honestly:
How can I have peace with all of this around me?
Clutter Is Not Just About Stuff
Some people love having a lot of things.
They keep buying, adding, storing, and stacking—finding space wherever they can. Closets full. Drawers packed. Corners taken over. And instead of clearing it out, they keep bringing more in.
But let’s stop for a moment and really think about it.
What are you adding to your life when you keep adding to your space?
Because clutter doesn’t just sit there.
It affects you.
It affects how you think.
It affects how you move.
It affects how you feel.
1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV) says:
“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…”
If your space feels confusing, overwhelming, and heavy… that’s not peace. And if it’s not peace, it’s not how God intends for us to live.
Let’s Be Honest — That’s Hoarding
Now let me say something that may not feel comfortable, but it’s real.
When we have a lot of things piled up, and we keep bringing more in without letting anything go…
That’s hoarding.
Just look around your home. Your room. Your car. Your space.
If it’s piled up, crowded, and overflowing—and you’re still adding more—you have to be honest with yourself.
You are holding onto too much.
And it’s not about judging anyone.
It’s about recognizing it so you can fix it.
Because if we don’t call it what it is, we’ll keep ignoring it.
You have to own up to it and say:
“Okay, this is too much. I need to get this under control.”
Because the truth is—if you don’t deal with it now, it can get worse.
And you deserve better than living in a space that overwhelms you.
I Had to Make It Personal
For me, I had to make a decision.
I can’t have peace if I don’t declutter my space.
I tried holding onto things before—telling myself I might need it later, or I’ll get to it eventually. But all it did was create more stress.
I couldn’t move freely.
I couldn’t clean properly.
I couldn’t think clearly.
And that’s when I knew:
Something has to go.
Not everything belongs in your life forever.
Some things are just taking up space.
Letting Go Creates Room for Peace
Every time I start decluttering, something shifts in me.
I feel lighter.
I feel calmer.
I feel clearer.
I can walk around without stepping over things.
I can clean without feeling frustrated.
I can sit in my space and actually enjoy it.
There is peace in having room to breathe.
There is joy in not feeling crowded.
There is clarity when things are not all over the place.
Ecclesiastes 3:6 (KJV) says:
“A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away.”
That means everything is not meant to stay.
Some things are meant to go.
When God Says Let It Go — Let It Go
There are times when God will put it on my heart to release something.
Not because it’s bad…
But because it’s no longer needed.
And when He tells me to let it go or give it away, I listen.
Because I’ve learned something:
Every time I obey, I feel peace.
Sometimes we hold onto things longer than we should, not because we need them, but because we’re used to them.
But obedience brings freedom.
Luke 6:38 (KJV):
“Give, and it shall be given unto you…”
When you release, you make room.
And when you make room, God can do something new.
Clutter Blocks More Than You Think
Let’s go deeper.
Clutter doesn’t just block your space.
It can block your mind.
It can block your focus.
And yes—it can even block how you hear from God.
Because when your environment is full…
Your mind feels full, too.
Psalm 46:10 (KJV) says:
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
But how can you be still when everything around you feels chaotic?
Decluttering Your Mind Matters Too
This is just as important.
You can clean your house…
But if your mind is still cluttered, you won’t feel peace.
Mental clutter looks like:
Overthinking
Worry
Holding onto past situations
Stress you can’t control
And just like physical clutter…
You have to let that go, too.
Philippians 4:8 (KJV) reminds us:
“Whatsoever things are true… honest… just… pure… lovely… think on these things.”
That means we have to be intentional about what we allow to stay in our minds.
You don’t have to carry everything.
My Mom Was Right
My mom always told me:
“Keep a clean home and don’t have a lot of things.”
And now I understand why.
It wasn’t just about cleaning.
It was about peace.
That stayed with me.
That’s why I’m always letting things go, giving things away, and clearing things out.
Because I don’t want anything around me that disturbs my peace.
Peace Is Better Than Stuff
Let me say this clearly:
I would rather have peace than a house full of things.
Stuff can’t give you peace.
Stuff can’t calm your mind.
Stuff can’t clear your thoughts.
But a clean, open, peaceful space?
That changes everything.
Proverbs 15:16 (KJV):
“Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.”
Less with peace is better than more with stress.
Start Small — But Start
You don’t have to fix everything in one day.
Start with one space.
One drawer.
One closet.
One area.
Ask yourself:
Do I really need this?
Do I use this?
Is this helping me or just sitting here?
And if it’s not adding value…
Let it go.
Keep It That Way
Decluttering is not a one-time thing.
It’s a lifestyle.
Because if you’re not careful, things will pile right back up again.
So once you clear your space…
Be intentional about what you allow back in.
Protect your peace.
Final Thought: Make Room for What Matters
At the end of the day, decluttering is not just about cleaning.
It’s about making room.
Room for peace.
Room for clarity.
Room for God to move in your life.
Because when everything is crowded…
You feel it.
But when things are clear…
You feel that too.
So let’s do better.
Let’s be honest about what we’re holding onto.
Let’s stop bringing in more when we already have too much.
Let’s release what we don’t need.
And let’s choose peace.
Reflection Questions
1. Is my space bringing me peace or stress?
2. Am I holding onto things I don’t need?
3. What can I release today to create more room in my life?

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being a God of peace and order. Help me to let go of anything that is cluttering my life. Give me the strength to release what I don’t need and the wisdom to keep what brings peace. Clear my mind, my space, and my heart so I can hear from You clearly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Hugs and Love,
Ty 💛

Clutter isn’t just about the stuff piling up around me-it’s about everything I’m holding onto that that I don’t actually want anymore. When I clear clutter, I’m not just cleaning-I’m deciding. I’m choosing what deserves space in my life and what doesn’t. It’s personal, because it forces me to be honest with myself about what I value and what I’ve outgrown. Some people don’t like to clean and make excuses why they continue to keep buying things they don’t need. So for me, decluttering isn’t about being neat or organized. It’s about letting go of what no longer feels right, and creating space for what does. Let me give you a little advice. Stop spending money because you have it, and clean/ declutter your house. Get rid of the past and enjoy your future. I don’t like a house that is filled with junk.
This is a good one sis! It’s definitely something to consider!
