Dark seasons can make us feel alone, forgotten, and discouraged, but God never leaves us. Learn how His presence, strength, and faithfulness carry us through the hardest moments of life.
God Never Left Me in My Darkest Season
One thing I can say with confidence is this:
God never left me in my darkest season.
There were moments when I did not understand what was happening.
There were moments when I had questions.
There were times when I prayed and did not receive the answer right away.
There were times when I felt tired, discouraged, and unsure of what would happen next.
But God was still there.
Even when I could not feel Him the way I wanted to, He was there.
Even when I could not understand His plan, He was there.
Even when life felt dark, He was there.
Looking back now, I can see that He never walked away from me.
He never stopped loving me.
He never stopped protecting me.
He never stopped working behind the scenes.
The darkness may have made it difficult for me to see what He was doing, but it never stopped Him from being present.
That is something I will always thank Him for.
Dark Seasons Are Real
I believe everyone experiences a dark season at some point.
It may come through loss.
Disappointment.
Financial struggles.
Family problems.
A broken relationship.
Health concerns.
Mental and emotional exhaustion.
Waiting on an answer that seems like it will never come.
A dark season does not always mean everything around you has fallen apart.
Sometimes the darkness is happening inside.
You may still be going to work.
Still taking care of your family.
Still attending church.
Still smiling.
But deep down, you know you are struggling.
You know something feels heavy.
You know you are trying to hold yourself together.
Those seasons are real.
And being a Christian does not mean we will never experience them.
It means we have Someone who walks through them with us.
I Did Not Always Understand What God Was Doing
If I am being honest, there were times when I did not understand God’s ways.
I wondered why certain things had to happen.
I wondered why some prayers seemed delayed.
I wondered why the season was lasting so long.
I wanted God to explain everything.
I wanted Him to show me the whole picture.
But He did not always do that.
Sometimes He gave me enough strength for one day.
Then enough strength for the next.
He did not show me the entire road.
He simply reminded me to keep walking with Him.
That was not always easy.
But it taught me how to trust Him one step at a time.
God Was Near Even When I Felt Alone
One of the hardest feelings during a dark season is loneliness.
You can be surrounded by people and still feel alone.
People may love you.
They may try to encourage you.
But they may not fully understand what is happening inside you.
God understands.
He knows the thoughts you do not say out loud.
He knows the prayers you cannot find the words to pray.
He knows the tears you wipe away before anyone sees them.
He knows every part of the battle.
๐ Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
That verse reminds me that God does not move away from us when we are hurting.
He comes near.
Sometimes I Could Only Pray a Few Words
There are times when a person does not have a long prayer to pray.
Sometimes all you can say is:
“Lord, help me.”
“Lord, give me strength.”
“Lord, I need You.”
And I believe God hears those prayers too.
He does not measure our prayers by how long they are.
He looks at the heart.
There were moments when I may not have known exactly what to say, but God already knew what I needed.
He understood every tear.
He understood every pause.
He understood every silent prayer.
That brought me comfort because I knew I did not have to explain everything perfectly to Him.
God’s Silence Did Not Mean His Absence
One thing I had to learn is that when God seems quiet, it does not mean He is gone.
Sometimes we expect God to answer immediately.
We expect a clear sign.
We expect a door to open.
We expect the situation to change.
When none of that happens right away, we may begin wondering where He is.
But God can be silent and still be working.
He can be quiet and still be protecting us.
He can seem far away while actually being closer than ever.
I have learned not to judge God’s presence by my emotions.
My feelings change.
God does not.
The Darkness Taught Me to Depend on God
I would not have chosen every difficult season I experienced.
But I can honestly say that those seasons taught me something.
They taught me to depend on God.
When everything is going well, we may believe we can handle life on our own.
But when trouble comes, we realize how much we truly need Him.
I needed His strength.
His peace.
His direction.
His comfort.
His Word.
The dark season showed me that my strength had limits, but God’s strength did not.
๐ 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
I did not have to be strong every moment.
I only needed to trust the One who was strong enough to carry me.
God Used People to Encourage Me
Another way God reminded me that He had not left was through the people He placed in my life.
Sometimes it was a family member.
Sometimes it was a friend.
Sometimes it was someone sharing a Scripture.
Sometimes it was a simple message at the right time.
God knew what I needed.
He knew when I needed encouragement.
He knew when I needed someone to listen.
He knew when I needed to be reminded that I was not alone.
That is why I believe we should never ignore an opportunity to encourage someone.
We may be the person God uses to bring light into someone’s dark season.
Let’s Make This Practical
If you are walking through a dark season, here are a few things I want to encourage you to do.
1. Keep Talking to God
Even if you do not know what to say, keep praying.
Tell Him how you feel.
He can handle your honesty.
2. Hold On to His Word
Your feelings may tell you that you are alone.
God’s Word tells you He will never leave you.
Choose His truth.
3. Do Not Isolate Yourself
Reach out to someone you trust.
Let them pray for you.
Let them encourage you.
You do not have to carry everything alone.
4. Take One Day at a Time
Do not overwhelm yourself by trying to figure out the entire future.
Ask God for the strength you need today.
5. Remember What God Has Done Before
Look back at the times He carried you.
His past faithfulness can give you hope for the present.
I Learned That God Was My Light
When life feels dark, it becomes difficult to see the next step.
That is when I learned to let God become my light.
I did not always need to see far ahead.
I only needed enough light to keep moving.
๐ Psalm 27:1 (KJV)
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”
God did not always remove the darkness immediately.
Sometimes He walked with me through it.
That showed me something important.
His presence was more valuable than having every problem disappear right away.
The Dark Season Did Not Last Forever
When we are in a difficult season, it can feel like it will never end.
Every day may feel the same.
Every prayer may feel unanswered.
Every step may feel heavy.
But seasons change.
The dark season did not last forever.
There came a time when I began seeing things differently.
I began understanding lessons I could not understand before.
I began noticing how much stronger my faith had become.
I began seeing how God had protected me.
I began realizing that He was working the entire time.
That season had an ending.
And yours will too.
My Darkest Season Became Part of My Testimony
One thing I appreciate about God is that He can use what hurt us to help someone else.
The season that made me cry can become the testimony that gives someone hope.
The lesson I learned can become the message someone else needs.
That is one reason I write.
I want people to know they are not alone.
I want someone who is struggling to read these words and remember that God is still there.
If God carried me, He can carry you.
If He gave me strength, He can strengthen you.
If He brought me through, He can bring you through too.
You May Not Feel Strong, but You Are Still Here
Sometimes we forget to recognize how far God has brought us.
You may not feel strong.
But you are still here.
You may still have questions.
But you are still praying.
You may still be waiting.
But you have not completely given up.
That is evidence of God’s strength working in you.
There were days when you did not think you would make it.
But God gave you enough strength to keep going.
Do not overlook that.
Every step matters.
Final Thought: He Was There the Whole Time
If there is one thing I hope you take away from this, it is this:
God never left you.
The dark season may have made you feel alone.
The silence may have made you question what He was doing.
The pain may have made it difficult to see His hand.
But He was there.
He was in tears.
He was in the prayers.
He was in the quiet moments.
He was in the encouragement someone gave you.
He was in the strength that helped you get out of bed and face another day.
I can look back now and say:
God never left me in my darkest season.
He carried me when I felt weak.
He gave me peace when my mind was overwhelmed.
He stayed close when I felt alone.
He helped me keep going when I wanted answers.
And I believe He will do the same for you.
Keep trusting Him.
Keep praying.
Keep holding on to His Word.
The darkness will not last forever.
And when you come through it, you will realize that the God who was with you before the season is the same God who stayed with you through it and brought you safely to the other side.

Reflection Questions
- Have I been judging God’s presence by how I feel instead of what His Word says?
- What did God teach me during one of my darkest seasons?
- Is there a burden I need to stop carrying alone and surrender to God?
- Who has God placed in my life that I can trust for prayer and encouragement?
- How can my testimony encourage someone who may be struggling today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for never leaving me, even during the darkest seasons of my life. Thank You for staying close when I felt alone and for giving me strength when I did not feel strong enough to keep going.
Help me trust Your presence even when I cannot understand Your plan. Remind me that Your silence does not mean You are absent and that You are always working behind the scenes.
When life feels heavy, teach me to take one day at a time. Help me hold on to Your Word, receive encouragement from the people You place in my life, and remember every time You have been faithful before.
Use my darkest seasons as part of my testimony. Allow what You brought me through to become hope and encouragement for someone else.
Thank You for being my light, my strength, my comfort, and my faithful Father. I know You never left me, and I trust that You never will.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
With Love,
Ty ๐ค
