Learn how praising God in advance strengthens your faith, shifts your perspective, and invites peace while you wait on His promises.
I Had to Learn This the Hard Way
I had to learn something that changed the way I walk with God.
I used to just ask Him for what I needed…
And then wait.
Wait for Him to come through.
Wait for the door to open.
Wait for things to change.
And once it happened—that’s when I would praise Him.
But one day, something shifted.
I was listening to a song by Marvin Sapp, and he said:
“Praise Him in advance.”
That line stayed with me.
Because it made me realize…
Why am I waiting until after it happens to praise God?
Praise While You Wait
My uncle says it all the time:
“Praise God while you’re in the waiting.”
And that hit me too.
Because waiting can be hard.
Waiting can feel uncomfortable.
Waiting can feel uncertain.
Waiting can test your faith.
But what if the waiting is not just about receiving…
What if it’s about trusting?
What It Means to Praise in Advance
Praising God in advance means you trust Him before you see the outcome.
It means:
- You praise Him before the door opens
- You praise Him before the prayer is answered
- You praise Him before things change
It’s saying:
“God, I trust You enough to thank You now.”
Even when nothing has changed yet.
That kind of praise comes from faith.
Faith Speaks Before It Sees
The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 11:1 (KJV):
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
That means faith doesn’t wait to see it first.
Faith believes first.
And when you praise God in advance…
You are showing Him that your faith is real.
I’m Still Waiting… But I’m Still Praising
I’m going to be honest—
There are still things I’m waiting on right now.
Things I’ve prayed about.
Things I’ve asked God for.
And they haven’t happened yet.
But that hasn’t stopped my praise.
Because I’ve learned:
God is still worthy… even in the waiting.
Today, my cousin and I were texting, and we were both asking God for something.
And we both said the same thing:
“We’re going to praise Him right now.”
Not later.
Not after it happens.
Right now.
Because when it does happen…
We already gave Him the praise.
Don’t Let Your Praise Be Conditional
One thing we have to be careful of is this:
Don’t let your praise be based only on what God does for you.
Because sometimes we do this without realizing it.
We praise when things go right.
We praise when prayers are answered.
We praise when doors open.
But when things don’t happen right away…
Our praise slows down.
That’s not the kind of relationship God wants.
God is not just worthy when He blesses you.
He is worthy at all times.
God Deserves Praise No Matter What
Psalm 34:1 (KJV) says:
“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
At all times.
Not just the good times.
Not just the answered prayer moments.
But at all times.
That includes:
- The waiting season
- The confusing season
- The stretching season
Because even when you don’t see it yet…
God is still working.
Praise Changes You While You Wait
Here’s something I’ve learned:
Praising God in advance doesn’t just prepare you for the blessing…
It changes you in the process.
It shifts your mindset.
It brings peace to your spirit.
It reminds you that God is in control.
Instead of worrying, you start worshiping.
Instead of stressing, you start trusting.
Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV) says:
“…but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God… shall keep your hearts and minds…”
That peace comes when you choose gratitude—even before the answer comes.
Don’t Forget God After the Blessing
Now let’s talk about this, too.
We can’t just praise God in advance…
And then forget Him after He comes through.
Because that happens sometimes.
We pray.
We wait.
God answers.
And then we move on like we don’t need Him anymore.
That’s not right.
God deserves our praise:
- Before it happens
- While it’s happening
- And after it happens
Because His goodness doesn’t stop—and neither should our praise.
God Is Faithful Even When We’re Not
Let’s be honest—
God has been good to us even when we didn’t deserve it.
Even when we didn’t always get it right.
Even when we didn’t always put Him first.
He still showed up.
He still made a way.
He still gave us grace.
That alone is enough to praise Him.
Final Thought: Start Praising Now
So moving forward, let’s do things differently.
Let’s stop waiting for God to do something before we praise Him.
Let’s praise Him now.
In the waiting.
In the uncertainty.
In the process.
Because when you praise God in advance…
You’re telling Him:
“I trust You, no matter what.”
And that kind of faith…
Will carry you through anything.
Reflection Questions
- Do I only praise God after He answers my prayers, or do I praise Him while I wait?
- What am I trusting God for right now?
- How can I make praise a daily part of my life, no matter the situation?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being a faithful and loving God. Teach me to praise You in advance, even before I see the outcome. Help me to trust You completely and not let my praise depend on my situation. Strengthen my faith while I wait, and fill my heart with gratitude. I choose to worship You now, knowing that You are already working on my behalf.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Encouraged by Faith

I’m learning to praise Him before I see the answer. While I’m still waiting, while nothing looks different, while the silence feels long- I’m still choosing worship. This waiting season isn’t empty. It’s stretching my faith, deepening my trust, and teaching me to lean on Him in a real way. So I won’t hold my praise hostage until things change. I’ll give it to Him now – honest, raw, and full of hope. I’m still waiting….but I’m still praising. 🙏🏿
