Waiting is one of the hardest parts of our faith journey, but it is often where God does His greatest work. Learn how to trust God’s timing, grow during the waiting season, and believe that He is preparing something good for your future.
How to Handle Waiting Seasons
If I am being honest, I think waiting is one of the hardest things God asks us to do.
I know because I have been there.
In fact, there have been times when I have felt like I had been waiting long enough.
Waiting on prayers.
Waiting on opportunities.
Waiting on answers.
Waiting on doors to open.
Waiting on God to move.
It is not always easy.
I think most of us struggle with waiting because we live in a world where everything happens so quickly.
If we are hungry, we can order food.
If we need something, we can shop online.
If we want information, we can search for it in seconds.
Everything around us encourages us to expect immediate results.
Then we come to God.
And sometimes He says,
“Wait.”
That one word can be difficult.
Because waiting is not something most of us enjoy.
We want things right now.
We want the job right now.
We want the business to succeed right now.
We want the house right now.
We want the car right now.
We want the marriage right now.
We want the promotion right now.
We want God to answer our prayers immediately.
But I want you to think about something that God placed on my heart.
Many of us want God to give us everything right away.
Yet when God calls us to give our lives to Him, repent, and accept the gift of salvation, many people put off that decision for years.
We will wait on the most important decision of our lives without much concern.
But when it comes to something we want, suddenly waiting becomes a problem.
That really made me stop and think.
Maybe God is trying to teach us something through the waiting.
Waiting Does Not Mean God Is Doing Nothing
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that just because I cannot see God working does not mean He has stopped working.
God is always working behind the scenes.
He is opening doors.
Closing doors.
Protecting us from things we cannot see.
Preparing opportunities.
Preparing people.
Preparing us.
Many times, we think waiting means nothing is happening.
But God is doing more than we realize.
We just cannot see it yet.
Looking back over my own life, I can now see that some of the things I thought were delays were actually God’s protection.
Some of the things I thought were disappointments became blessings later.
Some prayers were answered differently than I expected.
But they were answered in ways that were far better than I could have imagined.
That reminds me that God’s timing is always better than mine.
Waiting Builds Our Faith
I wish I could tell you that waiting becomes easy.
It does not.
But I can tell you that waiting has strengthened my faith.
When everything happens immediately, we do not have to trust very much.
But when we are waiting, we have a choice.
We can become discouraged.
Or we can keep trusting.
Waiting teaches us to depend on God.
It teaches us patience.
It teaches us humility.
It teaches us that we are not in control.
And honestly, that is not always a bad thing.
Because sometimes we try so hard to control everything that we leave very little room for God to work.
God Knows the Right Time
There have been many times when I thought I was ready.
I thought the timing was perfect.
I wondered why God was taking so long.
Then later I realized I was not as ready as I thought I was.
God knew exactly what He was doing.
He knew there were lessons I still needed to learn.
He knew there were areas where I still needed to grow.
He knew there were things He wanted to prepare me for.
I am thankful He did not answer every prayer according to my schedule.
Because my timing is limited.
God’s timing is perfect.
📖 Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
God has a season for everything.
That includes our waiting seasons.
Do Not Waste the Waiting
One thing I have learned is that waiting does not have to be wasted.
Sometimes we become so focused on what we are waiting for that we forget to live where we are.
Instead of complaining during the waiting season, ask yourself:
“What is God trying to teach me right now?”
Maybe He is teaching patience.
Maybe He is teaching trust.
Maybe He is strengthening your faith.
Maybe He is preparing you for something bigger.
The waiting season is not just about waiting for the blessing.
Sometimes the waiting season is a blessing because of everything God teaches us during that time.
Let’s Make This Practical
If you find yourself in a waiting season, here are a few things that have helped me.
1. Keep Praying
Do not stop talking to God just because the answer has not come yet.
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
2. Stay Faithful
Continue serving God.
Continue trusting Him.
Do not allow waiting to pull you away from Him.
3. Stop Comparing Your Timeline
Someone else’s blessing does not mean God has forgotten about you.
Your journey is different.
Trust God’s timing for your life.
4. Prepare for What You Are Praying For
If you are praying for an opportunity, prepare yourself now.
If you are praying for a business, keep learning.
If you are praying for a marriage, become the person God is calling you to be.
Preparation is part of the process.
5. Thank God While You Wait
Gratitude changes your perspective.
Thank Him for what He is already doing instead of focusing only on what has not happened yet.
Waiting Protects Us
One thing I have come to realize is that waiting often protects us.
If God gave us everything the moment we asked, we might not be ready.
Sometimes we think we are waiting on God.
But God is waiting until the right time.
He knows what we can handle.
He knows what we need.
He knows what will bring Him glory.
That gives me peace.
Because I know He is never late.
Waiting Helps Us Appreciate the Blessing
Have you ever noticed that the things we wait for often become the things we appreciate the most?
When something comes too easily, we sometimes take it for granted.
But when we have prayed for it…
Trusted God for it…
Waited faithfully for it…
We appreciate it differently.
We recognize it as God’s blessing.
We give Him the glory because we know we could not have done it on our own.
That is another reason waiting has value.
It reminds us where our blessings come from.
God’s Timing Is Worth Trusting
Looking back, there are so many things I wanted God to do immediately.
I wanted answers.
I wanted progress.
I wanted doors to open.
I wanted everything according to my timeline.
Now I realize that if God had answered everything when I wanted Him to, I probably would not have been ready.
He knew exactly what He was doing.
That gives me confidence to keep trusting Him during every waiting season.
Final Thought: Wait With Expectation
If there is one thing I hope you take away from this, it is this:
Do not be afraid of the waiting season.
I know it is difficult.
I know it can be frustrating.
I know there are moments when you wonder if anything is ever going to change.
I have been there.
But I have also learned that waiting is not the end of the story.
God is working.
Even when you cannot see it.
Even when you do not understand it.
Even when it feels like nothing is happening.
Keep trusting Him.
Keep praying.
Keep growing.
Keep believing.
Because your waiting season has a purpose.
And when God says it is time, no one can stop what He has prepared for you.
Until then, let us learn how to wait with faith instead of fear.
Let us wait with hope instead of frustration.
Let us wait, expecting God to do something greater than we could ever imagine.
Because I truly believe that waiting is a good thing.
It is during those seasons that God often does His deepest work in us before He does His greatest work through us.

📖 Psalm 27:14 (KJV)
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart…”
📖 Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
📖 Lamentations 3:25-26 (KJV)

Reflection Questions
- What am I currently waiting on God for?
- Am I trusting God’s timing or becoming frustrated with His process?
- What lessons might God be teaching me during this waiting season?
- How can I continue growing while I wait?
- Am I thanking God for what He is doing now, even before I see the answer?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for reminding me that your timing is always perfect. I admit that waiting is not always easy, and there are times when I become impatient because I want answers right away.
Help me trust You even when I cannot see what You are doing. Teach me to grow during my waiting season instead of complaining through it. Give me patience, strengthen my faith, and remind me that You are always working behind the scenes for my good.
Help me stay faithful, continue praying, and keep my eyes on You instead of my circumstances. Thank You for every lesson You are teaching me and for every blessing You are preparing in Your perfect time.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
With Love,
Ty 🤍

About the Author
Hi, I’m Ty, founder of Encouraged by Faith. God placed it on my heart to create this space to encourage others through Scripture, prayer, and personal reflections from everyday life. My prayer is that each post strengthens your faith, draws you closer to God, and reminds you that you are never walking alone.

Waiting seasons aren’t easy. There are days when I wonder why things haven’t happened yet or why certain doors remain closed. But I’m learning that God’s timing is never late, even when it feels slow to me. I’m choosing to trust that if God is asking me to wait, he’s also using this season to prepare me. What feels like a delay may actually be His protection or preparation for something better than I imagined. Today, I’m reminding myself that I don’t have to have all the answers. My job is to stay faithful, keep praying, keep growing, and keep believing. God’s job is the timing. God knows the right time, and I choose to trust His timing over my own.
