Setting Goals That Honor God

There is nothing wrong with having goals. In fact, I believe God wants us to have vision. He wants us to dream, to grow, to move forward. But I’ve learned something very important on this journey: whatever my goals are, I want them to honor God.

I don’t want to build something that leaves Him out.

I don’t want to achieve something and forget who helped me get there.

I don’t want to accomplish goals for myself and not give Him the praise.

There was a moment when I had to check myself. God gave me this blog page. He gave me the ideas. He gave me the strength. He gave me the consistency. He gave me the voice. And I almost started acting like I did it all on my own. Like He hadn’t been there the whole time helping me put it together.

That humbled me. My goal from the beginning was to encourage people all over. That was the heart behind it. But if I’m not careful, I could start taking credit and forgetting that God is the source. So now, I’m making it clear in my heart: every goal I set must honor Him.

Goals Should Begin With God, Not Just Ambition

It’s easy to set goals based on what we want. We write them down. We plan. We strategize. We visualize success. But if we’re not careful, we can create goals that are completely centered around ourselves. God showed me that before I write anything down, before I pursue anything, I need to ask Him first.

Proverbs 16:3 (KJV) says:

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

That Scripture reminds me that when I commit my plans to Him first, He establishes them. He aligns them. He strengthens them. If I’m doing all of this for myself, without giving Him the glory, things will eventually fall apart. Not because God is against me, but because He was never meant to be left out.

Ambition without God leads to exhaustion.
Vision without God leads to frustration.
Success without God feels empty.

But when your goals begin with Him, there is peace attached to the process.

Give God the Credit While You’re Building

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is waiting until we succeed to thank God. But the truth is, He deserves the glory during the building stage too. I had to realize that this blog, these posts, these ideas — they didn’t come from nowhere. God planted them in me. He gave me the courage to step out. He gave me the discipline to stay consistent.

Psalm 127:1 (KJV) says:

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”

If God is not in it, it won’t stand. I don’t want to labor in vain. I don’t want to build something that looks successful but lacks a spiritual foundation. I want every word I write, every goal I pursue, and every dream I chase to have His fingerprint on it.

When we give Him the glory along the way, He strengthens what we’re building.

Growth Is the Real Goal

Sometimes we think the goal is the achievement. But I’ve learned that the real goal is growth. If my goals don’t make me grow spiritually, emotionally, or mentally, then I need to reevaluate them. God doesn’t just care about what you accomplish — He cares about who you become while accomplishing it.

Romans 8:28 (KJV) says:

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

That means even the process is purposeful. This blog was never just about writing. It was about obedience. It was about stepping out of comfort. It was about trusting God with my voice. It was about honoring Him publicly.

I know He has something bigger and better ahead. But I also know I cannot rush into it without His guidance.

Wait for God’s Timing

I have other goals written down. Plans. Dreams. Ideas. But I’m waiting. I’m not forcing anything. I’m asking God to lead and guide me. There is a difference between setting goals and pushing ahead without God.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) says:

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

Timing matters. Just because you have the vision doesn’t mean it’s time yet. Just because you wrote it down doesn’t mean it’s ready to manifest. God sees what we cannot see. He knows what needs to align. He knows what needs to develop in us first.

Waiting doesn’t mean you’re behind.
Waiting means you trust Him.

Success Without God Is Not Success

The world will tell you to chase success at any cost. But as believers, we know better.

Matthew 6:33 (KJV) says:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

That Scripture is the foundation for every goal I set.

Seek Him first.
Honor Him first.
Acknowledge Him first.

If I reach a goal and it doesn’t bring Him glory, then what was the point? Yes, we can celebrate our hard work. Yes, we can acknowledge our effort. But let’s never forget who gave us the ability, the strength, and the opportunity. God knew our goals before we even thought about them.

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) says:

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord… to give you an expected end.”

He knew.

Before you planned it.
Before you wrote it.
Before you spoke it.

So let’s make sure our goals reflect gratitude.

Honor God in the Process, Not Just the Outcome

It’s not just about what you achieve — it’s about how you achieve it.

Are you honoring Him with your attitude?
Are you honoring Him with your integrity?
Are you honoring Him with your motives?

Colossians 3:23 (KJV) says:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

That means even your goals are worship.

Even your career.
Even your blog.
Even your business.
Even your dreams.

When your goals honor God, they become more than achievements — they become testimonies.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the dreams and goals You have placed inside of me. Help me set goals that honor You in every way. Remind me that without You, I can do nothing. Guide my steps, align my plans with Your will, and keep my heart humble as You elevate me. I give You the glory for what You have already done and for what You are preparing to do next. Let every goal I pursue reflect Your goodness and bring honor to Your name.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
