Meta Description:
Facing a hard season? Learn why seeking God first brings clarity, peace, and direction—even when life feels overwhelming and uncertain.
When Life Feels Heavy and Unclear
There are moments in life that feel heavy.
Moments that are confusing, overwhelming, and hard to process.
Nothing seems to make sense.
You feel pressure to figure everything out.
And the weight of it all feels like too much to carry.
In those moments, it’s easy to rely on yourself.
You start trying to fix things.
You begin planning your way out.
You lean on your own understanding, thinking if you just try harder, move faster, or think better…
Everything will fall into place.
I know this because I’ve been there.
When I Tried to Handle It on My Own
There have been difficult moments where I didn’t seek God right away.
Prayer wasn’t my first response.
Going to Him wasn’t my first thought.
Instead, I tried to figure it out on my own.
I thought:
- If I plan better
- If I move smarter
- If I try harder
Then things will work out.
But they didn’t.
The more I tried to control everything, the more frustrated I became.
The more I pushed, the more tired I felt.
And eventually…
I reached a place of exhaustion.
The Moment I Realized I Needed God
It was in that place—tired, overwhelmed, and out of answers—that I realized something important:
I needed to go back to God.
What I was doing wasn’t working.
And if I were being honest, I should have gone to Him first.
When We Lean on Our Own Understanding
The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV):
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
So many times, it’s not just the situation that makes things difficult…
It’s the fact that we try to handle it without God.
We lean on what we think we know.
We depend on our own plans.
We forget that God sees the full picture.
And because of that, we make things harder than they have to be.
What Changed Everything for Me
I had to stop and be honest with myself:
What I was doing wasn’t working.
So I made a decision.
I slowed down.
I sat with God.
I prayed.
I even fasted.
I talked to Him about everything:
- My fears
- My confusion
- My doubts
- My desires
I didn’t hold anything back.
I asked Him to guide me.
To redirect me.
To help me get back on the right path.
God Responds When We Truly Seek Him
One thing I’ve learned is this:
When you truly seek God…
He responds.
Not always how we expect.
Not always when we want.
But always faithfully.
Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV) says:
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
As I prayed and trusted Him, things began to shift.
Slowly.
Doors started opening.
Clarity started coming.
Peace replaced confusion.
And I knew it wasn’t because of anything I figured out on my own.
It was God.
He was there the whole time…
Waiting for me to come to Him.
Difficult Moments Are Invitations
This is something I had to understand:
Difficult moments are not meant to push us away from God.
They are invitations to draw closer to Him.
They remind us:
- We are not in control
- We are not meant to carry everything
- We are not meant to do life alone
Psalm 34:19 (KJV) says:
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”
That verse doesn’t ignore hardship.
It acknowledges it.
But it also reminds us that God delivers.
He sees you.
He hears you.
And He knows exactly what you need.
Trust God Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense
There will be times when God’s plan doesn’t make sense.
It may feel uncomfortable.
It may feel unclear.
It may not look like what you expected.
But trusting God means believing:
He knows what you don’t.
He sees what you can’t.
Isaiah 55:8–9 (KJV) says:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways…”
Looking back now, I can honestly say:
If I had gone to God first instead of trying to handle everything myself…
I would have saved myself a lot of stress.
A lot of frustration.
A lot of unnecessary pressure.
Seek God First—Not Last
If you’re going through something right now…
Let me encourage you:
Seek God first.
Don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed.
Don’t wait until you’re exhausted.
Don’t wait until everything falls apart.
Go to Him now.
Sit with Him.
Pray.
Be honest.
Ask Him to guide you.
Because when you put God first…
He will direct your steps.
Final Thought: You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.
You don’t have to carry every burden.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
God is there.
Ready to guide you.
Ready to give you peace.
Ready to lead you in the right direction.
All you have to do…
Is seek Him.
Reflection Questions
- Do I go to God first in difficult moments, or do I try to handle things on my own?
- What is something I need to bring to God right now?
- Am I trusting God’s plan, even when I don’t understand it?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I come before You, acknowledging that I need You. In difficult moments, help me to seek You first and not rely on my own understanding. Guide my steps, order my path, and give me peace while I wait on You. Teach me to trust Your plan, even when I don’t understand it. Thank You for always being faithful and for never leaving me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Ty 🤍
