Struggling to let go and trust God? Learn how to release control, stop stressing, and trust God’s plan with biblical truth and practical steps.
I Had to Learn This the Hard Way
Letting go is not easy.
Especially when you’re used to doing everything on your own.
You handle it.
You figure it out.
You keep pushing.
Even when you’re tired…
You keep going.
Until one day…
You realize you can’t do it anymore.
That’s where I found myself.
Trying to hold everything together…
Trying to make things work…
Trying to control outcomes…
And it still wasn’t working.
That’s when I had to face the truth:
I needed help.
And not just any help…
I needed God.
Why Is It So Hard to Let Go?
Letting go sounds simple…
But it’s a struggle for a reason.
1. You’re Used to Doing Things on Your Own
When you’ve been independent for so long, letting go feels unnatural.
You think:
- “If I don’t handle it, who will?”
- “I have to make this work.”
So instead of releasing control…
👉 You hold on tighter
2. You Want Things to Go Your Way
Let’s be real.
We all have a vision of how things should go.
So when life doesn’t match that…
We try to fix it ourselves.
But here’s the truth:
God’s plan won’t always match your expectations — but it will always be better.
3. You’re Afraid of What Will Happen If You Let Go
You may think:
- “What if things fall apart?”
- “What if it doesn’t work out?”
- “What if I lose control completely?”
But holding on doesn’t guarantee anything either.
👉 It just adds stress.
What Does It Really Mean to Let Go and Let God?
Let’s break this down.
Letting go doesn’t mean:
- You stop caring
- You stop trying
- You give up
It means:
👉 You release control
👉 You trust God’s direction
👉 You stop trying to carry everything yourself
What the Bible Says About Letting Go
📖 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
God is literally telling you:
👉 Give it to Me
👉 Stop carrying it
👉 I care about what you’re dealing with
📖 Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart…”
Not part of it.
All of it.
What Happens When You Don’t Let Go
When you hold onto everything:
- You become stressed
- You become overwhelmed
- You overthink everything
- You feel drained
Because you’re carrying something…
You were never meant to carry.
I Had to Let It Go
You said something real:
You keep going until you can’t go anymore.
That’s exactly how it happens.
You push and push…
Until life forces you to stop.
And that’s when you finally say:
“God, I can’t do this without You.”
I’ve been there too.
Second-guessing.
Trying to figure it out.
Going back and forth.
But I had to realize:
👉 God already had it worked out
👉 I just needed to trust Him
How to Let Go and Let God Take Control
Let’s make this practical.
Because this is where change really happens.
1. Admit That You Need God
This is the first step.
You have to be honest and say:
👉 “I can’t do this on my own.”
And that’s not a weakness.
That’s wisdom.
2. Give It to God — For Real
Not halfway.
Not temporarily.
Fully.
That means:
- Stop picking it back up
- Stop trying to fix it your way
- Stop stressing over it
📖 Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
“Come unto me… and I will give you rest.”
👉 Rest comes when you release it.
3. Stop Overthinking Everything
Overthinking will keep you stuck.
You’ll keep asking:
- “What if?”
- “What should I do?”
- “How will this work?”
Instead of trusting…
👉 You stay in your head
But trust requires peace — not overthinking.
4. Trust That God Has a Plan
You said it:
You don’t have to stress or worry…
Because God already has a plan.
📖 Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you…”
God already:
- Knows the outcome
- Knows the process
- Knows what you need
👉 You just have to trust Him.
5. Let God Lead — Even When You Don’t Understand
This is the hardest part.
Trusting when things don’t make sense.
But real trust says:
👉 “God, I don’t understand… but I trust You anyway.”
What Happens When You Finally Let Go
When you truly let go and let God take control:
- You feel peace
- You stop stressing
- You stop trying to control everything
- You trust the process
Because now you know:
God is handling it.
God Has Always Been There
You said something powerful:
God has always been there — through the good and the bad.
That’s real.
Even when you were:
- Trying to figure it out
- Doing it your way
- Holding onto everything
👉 He was still there
Waiting for you to give it to Him.
Final Thought: You Don’t Have to Carry It Anymore
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed right now…
Let this be your reminder:
You don’t have to do everything on your own.
You don’t have to carry the weight.
You don’t have to figure it all out.
You can let it go.
And let God take control.
Because when you do…
You’ll realize something:
👉 He had it handled the whole time.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for always being there for me, even when I try to handle everything on my own. Help me to let go of control and trust You completely. Teach me to stop stressing and worrying about things that are out of my hands.
Give me peace in knowing that You already have a plan for my life. Help me to surrender everything to You and to walk in faith, even when I don’t understand.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Ty 🤍
