Meta Description

A powerful faith-based testimony about overcoming fear through God’s presence, learning to trust Him in difficult moments, and choosing faith over fear in everyday life.

When Fear Feels Overwhelming

When I was younger, there was one thing I could not deal with.

Funerals.

I didn’t like going to them at all.

The moment I walked into a funeral home, my stomach would twist. There was this heavy feeling that would come over me, and I couldn’t shake it. I didn’t want to look at the casket. I didn’t want to think about death. I didn’t want to face any of it.

So I didn’t.

I would walk in quietly, find a seat, and stay right there until everything was over.

No moving.
No looking.
No getting close.

Just sitting there… trying to get through it.

That fear was real for me.

And I avoided it as much as I could.

A Word That Stayed With Me

Thank God for my mom.

She never forced me to go up to the casket. She didn’t push me into something I wasn’t ready for. She understood where I was, and she let me be.

But one day, she said something to me that stayed with me for years.

She said:

“One day, someone very close to you will help you overcome that fear.”

At the time, I didn’t understand what she meant.

I remember thinking to myself:

“There’s no way I’m ever going to stop being scared.”

Because that fear felt too big.

Too strong.

Too real.

But what I didn’t know then… was that God was already working on me.

When Faith Begins to Grow

As I got older, my relationship with God started to grow.

I began to understand more about:

Who God is
What heaven means
What eternal life really looks like

But even with that growth…

I didn’t realize that one day, my biggest fear would be replaced with peace.

And not just any moment…

But one of the hardest moments of my life.

The Moment Everything Changed

It took my nana’s passing for me to truly understand what my mom meant.

My nana and I were very close.

She was loving.
She was caring.
She was full of faith.

And when her time came…

I was there.

Right beside her.

I can still remember that moment so clearly.

Watching her take her last breath was something I never thought I would be able to handle.

I thought I would panic.
I thought I would break down in fear.
I thought I wouldn’t be able to stay.

But something happened.

Something shifted.

When Peace Replaced Fear

Instead of fear…

I felt peace.

Instead of running away…

I stayed.

Instead of crying in fear…

I cried in love.

And in that moment, I realized something I will never forget:

God was right there with me.

I could feel His presence.

I could feel His peace.

And the fear I had carried for so many years…

Was gone.

That moment showed me what faith over fear really means.

Understanding What Faith Over Fear Really Is

Faith over fear is not about pretending you’re not afraid.

It’s about choosing to trust God…

Even when fear tries to show up.

Because let’s be real—

Fear will come.

Situations will happen.
Moments will come that shake you.
Things will happen that you don’t understand.

But faith says:

“I trust God anyway.”

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) says:

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

That verse became real to me.

Not just something I read…

But something I experienced.

Because in that moment with my nana, I saw it for myself.

God gave me:

Strength when I felt weak
Peace when I expected fear
Comfort when I didn’t think I could handle it

Seeing Death Through Faith

After that experience, my perspective changed.

I no longer see death the same way.

I don’t run from it.

I don’t fear it the way I used to.

Now, I see it through the eyes of faith.

Because death is not the end for those who believe in Christ.

It’s a transition.

Psalm 23:4 (KJV) says:

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…”

That scripture carries so much comfort.

Because it reminds me that even in those moments…

God is still with us.

You Can Face What Once Scared You

Looking back, I can honestly say:

What once terrified me…

No longer has power over me.

Not because I got stronger on my own.

But because my faith grew stronger.

And that’s what happens when you allow God into your fear.

He doesn’t always remove the situation…

But He will change how you walk through it.

Faith Is a Daily Choice

Faith over fear is not just one moment.

It’s a daily decision.

It’s a choice:

Peace over panic
Prayer over worry
Trust over doubt

Even when you don’t have all the answers.

Even when things feel uncertain.

Even when fear tries to come back.

John 14:27 (KJV) says:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you… Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

That peace is real.

And it’s available to us every day.

Whatever Your Fear Is—God Can Handle It

Maybe your fear isn’t death.

Maybe it’s:

Failure
Loss
The unknown
Change

Whatever it is…

God sees it.

And just like He helped me overcome my fear…

He can help you overcome yours.

It may not happen overnight.

It may take time.

But step by step…

God will walk you through it.

One Day You’ll Look Back

There will come a moment—

Just like I had—

Where you look back and realize:

“I’m not afraid of that anymore.”

And when that moment comes…

You’ll know it wasn’t you.

It was God.

Because His peace truly does pass all understanding.

Hold On to This Truth

So today, I choose faith over fear.

I choose to trust God.
I choose to believe His promises.
I choose to walk in peace.

Even when I don’t understand everything.

Because I know this:

God is with me.

And when God is with you…

Fear does not get the final say.

Reflection Questions

1. What is something I’ve been afraid of that I need to give to God?

2. How has God shown me peace in a situation where I expected fear?

3. What does choosing faith over fear look like in my daily life?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for teaching me what faith over fear truly means. Thank you for being with me in moments where I once felt afraid. Help me to trust You in every situation and to walk in the peace You have given me. Strengthen my faith so that fear has no place in my heart. Remind me daily that You are with me, guiding me and covering me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Faith over fear isn’t about never feeling afraid—

It’s about knowing that even when you are…

God is right there with you.

And because of that…

Fear doesn’t get the final say.

Lots of Love,
Ty 🤍
