Meta Description

The people we surround ourselves with influence our faith more than we realize. Learn why choosing friends who encourage your walk with God can strengthen your faith, bring comfort during difficult seasons, and help you grow spiritually.

Choosing Friends Who Strengthen Your Faith

One thing I have learned is that the people we allow into our lives matter.

They influence the way we think.

They influence the way we speak.

They influence the decisions we make.

And they can even influence our relationship with God.

That is why I believe it is so important to choose friends who strengthen your faith.

I thank God for the friends He has placed in my life.

They are more than people I simply spend time with.

They are people I know I can count on.

When I feel discouraged, they encourage me.

When I need prayer, they pray with me.

When I need wisdom, they point me back to God’s Word.

When my faith feels a little weak, they help strengthen it.

I am grateful for those kinds of friendships because they remind me that I do not have to walk this journey alone.

God Never Intended for Us to Walk Alone

Sometimes people think being a Christian means we have to figure everything out by ourselves.

But that is not how God designed it.

He created us for fellowship.

He created us to encourage one another.

He created us to pray for one another.

Life can be difficult.

There will be seasons when we feel tired.

There will be seasons when we feel discouraged.

There will be seasons when our faith is tested.

During those moments, it is a blessing to have people who remind us that God is still faithful.

Sometimes all we need is someone to say,

“Keep trusting God.”

“I’m praying for you.”

“Do not give up.”

“God is going to bring you through this.”

Those simple words can make a bigger difference than people realize.

I Thank God for My Friends

I honestly thank God for the friends He has blessed me with.

They are the kind of friends who will tell me what I need to hear, not just what I want to hear.

They encourage me.

They pray for me.

They remind me to trust God.

They comfort me when I need it.

And I try to do the same for them.

Friendship should never be one-sided.

Just as they are there for me when my faith needs to be lifted, I want to be there for them when they need encouragement too.

Sometimes I am the one praying.

Sometimes they are praying for me.

Sometimes I am encouraging them.

Sometimes they are encouraging me.

That is what healthy friendships look like.

We help one another keep our eyes on Christ.

My Cousins Are My Brothers

When I think about people who strengthen my faith, I cannot leave out my cousins.

Honestly, I call them my brothers.

That is how close we are.

I know if I need encouragement, I can call them.

If I need someone to pray with me, I can call them.

If I need a word from God, I know they are going to point me back to Him.

That means a lot to me.

Not everyone has people like that in their lives.

So I never want to take it for granted.

I thank God for the relationship we have.

I thank Him that we can encourage one another.

I thank Him that we can laugh together, talk together, and also grow together spiritually.

Those are relationships I truly treasure.

Friends Should Point You Toward God

One thing I believe is that good friends should bring you closer to God, not farther away from Him.

They should encourage your faith.

Not weaken it.

They should help you make wise decisions.

Not pressure you into making bad ones.

They should celebrate what God is doing in your life.

Do not become jealous of your blessings.

True friends want to see you grow.

True friends are happy when God blesses you.

True friends remind you to keep trusting Him.

That is the kind of friend I want to be.

And those are the kinds of friends I want around me.

๐Ÿ“– Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

Just as iron sharpens iron, godly friendships help sharpen our faith.

We All Need Encouragement

I do not care how strong someone’s faith is.

Everyone needs encouragement sometimes.

There are days when life becomes overwhelming.

Days when we wonder what God is doing.

Days when we become tired.

Days when we feel discouraged.

That is why having the right people around us matters.

Sometimes God uses our friends to remind us of His promises.

Sometimes He uses them to speak hope into our lives.

Sometimes He uses them to simply listen.

Never underestimate how much your presence can mean to someone.

Let’s Make This Practical

If you want friendships that strengthen your faith, here are a few things to remember.

1. Choose Friends Who Love God

Nobody is perfect.

But surrounding yourself with people who desire to follow Christ makes a difference.

2. Pray for Your Friends

Do not only call them when you need something.

Pray for them regularly.

Lift them up before God.

3. Be the Friend You Want to Have

Encourage others.

Support them.

Celebrate their victories.

Pray with them.

Listen when they need someone.

4. Speak God’s Word

When your friends are discouraged, remind them what God says.

His Word brings hope.

5. Appreciate the People God Has Given You

Do not wait until someone is gone to tell them how much they mean to you.

Let them know you are thankful for them.

Not Every Friendship Is Meant to Last Forever

One thing I have learned is that not every friendship is meant to last forever.

Some people are in our lives for a season.

Others are there for a lifetime.

That does not make someone a bad person.

Sometimes God simply leads people in different directions.

As we grow spiritually, our friendships may change too.

That is okay.

The important thing is to continue surrounding ourselves with people who encourage us to grow closer to Christ.

Friendships Require Effort

Healthy friendships do not happen by accident.

They require time.

They require communication.

They require honesty.

They require forgiveness.

They require prayer.

Just like any other relationship, friendships grow when both people are willing to invest in them.

I am thankful for the people in my life who continue to make that investment.

They are a blessing I never want to take for granted.

Be the Encouragement Someone Needs

Sometimes we are waiting for someone to encourage us.

But what if God wants us to encourage someone else first?

A phone call.

A text message.

A prayer.

A kind word.

A Bible verse.

Those small things can make a huge difference.

God may use you to strengthen someone else’s faith today.

Never underestimate the power of encouraging another believer.

๐Ÿ“– Hebrews 10:24-25 (KJV)

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works… exhorting one another.”

That is exactly what we should be doing.

Building one another up.

Final Thought: Thank God for the People Who Strengthen Your Faith

If there is one thing I hope you take away from this, it is this:

Be thankful for the people God has placed in your life who strengthen your faith.

I know I am.

I thank God for my friends.

I thank God for my cousins, whom I proudly call my brothers.

I thank God for the prayers we have prayed together.

The conversations we have shared.

The encouragement we have given one another.

The times we have reminded each other to keep trusting God.

Those relationships are gifts.

And I never want to take them for granted.

I also want to be that kind of person for others.

I want to encourage people.

I want to pray for people.

I want to point people back to Christ whenever they feel discouraged.

Because life is hard enough.

We all need someone who will strengthen our faith instead of weakening it.

So choose your friends wisely.

Treasure the people who point you toward Jesus.

And never forget to thank God for the people He has placed in your life to help you keep walking by faith.
