It Started With Wanting to Understand More
One thing I can say about my walk with God is this—I didn’t always understand everything.
There were times I would read the Bible and be like:
“Lord… what does this even mean?”
And instead of just skipping over it or pretending I understood, I realized something important:
I need to study.
Not just read.
But study.
Because there is a difference.
Reading is good.
But studying… that’s where growth happens.
And once I started taking Bible study seriously, everything began to change.
Bible Study Helps You Grow in Your Walk
Having Bible study is not just something you do because it sounds good.
It actually helps you in your walk.
Because life will bring situations that require more than just surface-level understanding.
You’re going to face moments where you need:
Wisdom
Discernment
Patience
Understanding
And you can’t get that without spending time in God’s Word.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) says:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God…”
That means studying is part of your growth.
It’s not optional if you really want to walk with God.
You Don’t Have to Know Everything
One thing I had to get comfortable with is this:
I don’t know everything.
And that’s okay.
Because sometimes people feel like they have to understand everything on their own.
But God didn’t design it that way.
He placed people around us for a reason.
There are times when I don’t understand something, and I know I can go to:
My Pastor
Assistant Pastor
My parents
Family members
Church members
And ask questions.
And I love that.
Because I can learn from them…
And they can learn from me, too.
Proverbs 11:14 (KJV) says:
“In the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
That means there is wisdom in seeking guidance.
You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.
Learning From Others While Growing Yourself
Bible study is not just about personal growth.
It’s also about community.
When you study with others…
You hear different perspectives.
You gain a deeper understanding.
You see things you may have missed.
And at the same time…
You might say something that helps someone else.
That’s how God works.
Iron sharpens iron.
Proverbs 27:17 (KJV) says:
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
That means we grow together.
Not just individually.
But collectively.
Setting Bible Study Goals
Now this is where it gets real.
Because if you don’t set goals…
You’ll stay in the same place.
You’ll read when you feel like it.
Study when it’s convenient.
And skip it when life gets busy.
But when you set goals?
You become intentional.
Your goals don’t have to be complicated.
They can be simple, like:
“I’m going to study daily.”
“I’m going to understand what I read.”
“I’m going to ask questions when I don’t get it.”
“I’m going to apply what I learn.”
Psalm 119:105 (KJV) says:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
That means the Word guides you.
But you have to be in it for it to guide you.
When Your Perspective Starts to Change
One thing I noticed after committing to Bible study is this:
My perspective started to change.
I stopped looking at things only through my feelings…
And started looking at things through God’s eyes.
Situations didn’t hit the same anymore.
People didn’t affect me the same way.
My reactions changed.
Because now I had understanding.
Romans 12:2 (KJV) says:
“Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
That transformation comes through the Word.
The more you study…
The more your mind changes.
It Makes You Better Spiritually
Let me say it like this:
Bible study will make you better.
Not perfect.
But better.
You’ll start to:
Think differently
Speak differently
Respond differently
Because now you’re not just reacting…
You’re responding with understanding.
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) says:
“The word of God is quick, and powerful…”
That means the Word works on you.
It corrects you.
It teaches you.
It strengthens you.
Even when you don’t realize it.
Applying What You Learn
Now here’s the key:
It’s not just about studying.
It’s about applying.
Because you can read all day…
But if you don’t live it…
Nothing changes.
James 1:22 (KJV) says:
“Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
That means:
Live what you learn.
If the Word says forgive, then forgive.
If the Word says love, then love.
If the Word says trust—then trust.
That’s where real transformation happens.
Staying Consistent Even When It’s Hard
Let’s be honest again—
Consistency is not always easy.
There are days when you don’t feel like studying.
Days when you’re tired.
Days when life gets busy.
But those are the days you need it the most.
Joshua 1:8 (KJV) says:
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth… meditate therein day and night…”
That means stay in it.
Daily.
Not just when it’s convenient.
Because consistency builds strength.
Your Walk Will Look Different
When you truly commit to Bible study…
Your walk will change.
You won’t move the same.
You won’t think the same.
You won’t respond the same.
Because now…
You’re grounded.
Colossians 2:7 (KJV) says:
“Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith…”
That’s what Bible study does.
It roots you.
So when life comes…
You don’t fall easily.
Final Thought: This Walk Is Personal
At the end of the day…
This walk is personal.
What I feel about Bible study…
Someone else may not feel the same way.
But I can say this for me:
It has transformed my walk.
It has helped me grow.
It has given me understanding.
It has brought me closer to God.
And I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
So if you’re not studying as you should…
Start.
Set goals.
Stay consistent.
Ask questions.
Apply what you learn.
And watch how your walk begins to change.
Reflection Questions
1. What are my current Bible study habits?
2. Do I truly understand what I read, or do I skim through it?
3. How can I become more consistent in studying God’s Word?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word that guides, teaches, and transforms us. Help me to be intentional about studying and understanding Your Word. Give me clarity when I don’t understand and place the right people in my life to help me grow. Teach me not just to read, but to apply what I learn. Strengthen my walk and draw me closer to You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Great job sis. My study recently when reading has been finding the correlations between the Old and the New Testament. Some people that the Old Testament is null and void but they couldn’t be more wrong if they understood what they were reading.
