When Your Goals Become Bigger Than You
Lately, I’ve been thinking about my goals.
Not just what I want to do…
But why am I doing it?
And one thing I can say is this:
My goal right now is to serve others.
Through my blog.
Through conversations.
Through encouragement.
Every day, I want to show up and pour into someone.
Even if it’s just one person.
But at the same time…
I give all the glory to God.
Because none of this is coming from me alone.
Everything I share…
Everything I say…
Everything I write…
God places it in my heart.
Serving Others With What God Gives You
There are times when I’m just talking to someone—nothing planned, nothing prepared.
And in the middle of that conversation…
God will drop something in my spirit.
Something to say.
Something to share.
Something from His Word.
And I’ve learned to follow that.
Because when you are connected to God…
He will use you.
Not in a loud way.
Not in a show-off way.
But in a real way.
2 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV) says:
“We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
That means what’s inside of us comes from Him.
So when we help others…
It’s not about us getting credit.
It’s about God being seen.
You Don’t Have to Announce Your Faith
One thing about me—
I don’t have to go around telling people I go to church.
I don’t have to force it.
I don’t have to prove anything.
But when someone asks me?
I say YES.
And I say it with joy.
Because I’m excited about my relationship with God.
And the truth is:
People will see it before you say it.
They’ll see it in how you talk.
How you respond.
How you treat others.
Matthew 5:16 (KJV) says:
“Let your light so shine before men…”
That means your life should reflect God.
Not just your words.
When God Is in Your Goals
When God is in your goals…
Things begin to line up differently.
Not always easier.
But better.
More purposeful.
More meaningful.
More aligned.
Because now it’s not just about what you want…
It’s about what God wants to do through you.
Proverbs 16:3 (KJV) says:
“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
That means when you include God…
He orders your steps.
You’re not just moving—you’re being led.
Don’t Forget Who Gets the Glory
This is important.
Because sometimes we can get so focused on what we’re doing…
That we forget who gave us the ability to do it.
Your business?
God allowed it.
Your job?
God provided it.
Your home?
God made a way.
Your platform?
God opened that door.
Everything we have…
Is because of Him.
James 1:17 (KJV) says:
“Every good gift… is from above…”
So we can’t take credit for what God has done.
We have to give Him glory.
Every time.
Serving Like Jesus
When I think about serving…
I think about Jesus.
He didn’t hesitate.
He didn’t complain.
He didn’t pick and choose who to help.
He served.
With humility.
With love.
With compassion.
Mark 10:45 (KJV) says:
“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister…”
That means Jesus came to serve.
And if we say we follow Him…
We should be doing the same.
Humility Is Required
Let’s be real for a moment.
Serving others requires humility.
Because sometimes…
You won’t get recognition.
You won’t get a thank you.
You won’t get anything in return.
And that’s where many people struggle.
Because they want something back.
But real serving?
Comes from the heart.
Philippians 2:5 (KJV) says:
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”
That means we should carry the same mindset.
A mindset that says:
“I’m here to help, not to be seen.”
Serving Others While Staying Grounded
Now let me say this—
Serving others doesn’t mean losing yourself.
You still need God.
You still need to be filled.
You still need to stay connected.
Because you can’t pour into others…
If you’re empty.
Galatians 6:9 (KJV) says:
“Let us not be weary in well doing…”
That means don’t get tired of doing good.
But also—
Stay connected to the Source.
Because God will refill you.
Goals With Purpose
Your goals should have purpose.
Not just for you…
But for others.
Ask yourself:
“Who does this help?”
“Who does this serve?”
“How does this glorify God?”
Because when your goals serve others…
They go beyond you.
And when they glorify God…
They last.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV) says:
“Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
That means everything you do—
Should point back to Him.
Final Thought: Set Goals That Matter
So today, I want to encourage you:
Set goals that serve others.
Set goals that glorify God.
Not just goals that look good.
Not just goals that bring attention.
But goals that have impact.
Goals that make a difference.
Goals that reflect God.
Because when you do that…
You’re not just building something for yourself.
You’re building something with purpose.
And that’s what truly matters.
Reflection Questions
1. Are my goals focused only on me, or do they serve others as well?
2. How can I include God more in my plans and decisions?
3. Am I giving God the glory for what He has already done in my life?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gifts, opportunities, and purpose You have placed in my life. Help me to set goals that serve others and glorify You. Keep my heart humble and my focus on You. Teach me to give You honor in everything I do and to remember that everything I have comes from You. Use me as a vessel to encourage and uplift others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
