There’s something about obedience that we don’t always talk about the right way.
We talk about doing what God says.
We talk about following His Word.
We talk about being disciplined.
But we don’t always talk about the heart behind it.
And that’s where I had to grow.
When Obedience Feels Like a Stretch
I had to learn that obedience isn’t always easy.
Sometimes it stretches you.
Sometimes it pulls you out of what feels comfortable.
Sometimes it asks you to let go of what you want.
Sometimes it requires you to move before you fully understand.
And if I’m being honest, there were moments where I didn’t feel excited about that.
I knew what God was asking…
But I didn’t always feel ready.
And that’s real.
Learning That Obedience Is Trust
But over time, God showed me something deeper.
Obedience is not just about doing what He says.
It’s about trusting Him.
Because when I obey, I’m saying:
“God, I trust that Your way is better than mine.”
Even when I don’t see the outcome.
Even when I don’t understand the timing.
Even when it doesn’t make sense to me.
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV) says:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
That means obedience goes beyond logic.
It’s faith.
It’s Not Just What You Do—It’s How You Do It
This is where things really shifted for me.
Because I realized I could obey…
but still have the wrong heart.
I could do what God said…
but feel frustrated while doing it.
I could move forward…
But carry resistance inside.
And God checked me on that.
Because obedience is not just about action—it’s about attitude.
A Shift in My Heart
That’s when I started asking myself:
Am I obeying with joy…
Or just going through the motions?
Because there’s a difference.
Rejoicing in obedience means I’m not dragging my feet.
It means I’m not complaining the whole way through.
It means I recognize that if God is leading me, then I’m already in the right place.
Obedience Brings Peace
One thing I’ve learned is this:
Even when obedience is uncomfortable… it brings peace.
There’s a confidence that comes with knowing:
“I did what God told me to do.”
Even if everything around me is still uncertain…
There’s something steady on the inside.
Isaiah 1:19 (KJV) says:
“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.”
That word willing stands out.
Because it’s not just obedience.
It’s willingness.
You Don’t Have to Understand Everything
Let me say something that helped me:
You don’t have to understand everything to obey.
And that was hard for me at first.
Because I like to understand.
I like to know what’s coming.
I like to feel prepared.
But God doesn’t always work like that.
Sometimes he just says:
“Move.”
And you have to decide if you’re going to trust Him enough to take that step.
Rejoicing Changes the Way You Obey
When you begin to rejoice in obedience, something shifts.
You stop looking at it like a burden.
You stop seeing it as something hard.
And you start seeing it as:
Direction.
Protection.
Growth.
Psalm 119:60 (KJV) says:
“I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.”
That means moving quickly—not reluctantly.
Not dragging.
But willingly.
Obedience Is Growth
Every time you obey God, you are growing.
Even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Even if it’s small.
Even if nobody sees it.
You are becoming stronger in your faith.
You are becoming more sensitive to His voice.
You are becoming who He created you to be.
Let’s Be Real for a Moment
Not everyone will understand your obedience.
Some people will question it.
Some people will doubt it.
Some people will not see what God showed you.
But that’s okay.
Because your obedience is between you and God.
Galatians 1:10 (KJV) reminds us:
“For do I now persuade men, or God?… if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”
That means you’re not here to please people.
You’re here to follow God.
A Different Way to Live
Rejoicing in obedience is a different mindset.
It’s waking up and saying:
“God, whatever You want me to do today, I’m willing.”
It’s trusting Him before you see results.
It’s choosing peace over control.
It’s walking forward even when you don’t have all the answers.
Try This Today
Instead of looking at obedience as something heavy…
Shift your mindset.
When God leads you:
Pause.
Listen.
Respond with willingness.
Even if it’s small.
Because those small moments build something bigger.
The Joy Is in the Journey
For me, rejoicing in obedience means this:
I’m not just following God…
I’m enjoying the process of becoming closer to Him.
I’m recognizing that every step matters.
Every “yes” matters.
Every act of obedience aligns me with His will.
And that’s something worth rejoicing about.

Reflection Questions
1. Am I obeying God with joy or just out of obligation?
2. What is something God is asking me to do that I’ve been hesitant about?
3. How can I shift my heart to trust Him more in my obedience?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Help me to rejoice in obedience. Not just to do what you say, but to do it with the right heart. Teach me to trust You even when I don’t understand. Give me the willingness to follow You fully and the joy to walk in Your will. I know that Your way is always better.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Encouraged by Faith

Amen. Sis. Tychelle. This is a lovely post about obedience. In the section “It’s just not what you do, but how you do it”, is a great self-examination of checking myself inwardly to make sure that my heart is in the right place and that I am not murmuring nor complaining.
Thank you for a wonderful post on obedience and how it all leads us to build our faith amd trust in God that aligns with His will for our lives.
Be blessed in our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Amen.
Your messages always hit so close to home .. seems like all Gods children face some of the same challenges, thoughts realizations battles. This was perfect I was just thinking to myself yesterday why do I feel reluctant to do what I’m asked from my Heavenly Father ( even though I do it without asking) why do I feel like I’m dragging? Why is it that I feel drained by my walking in obedience and faith ? You came to same conclusion as I did and this post helped me see Gods message even clearer !!! Serve with an open heart and heart full of joy and love . When God asks you to do something do it with the willingness and agreement that it is for your greater good as well as Gods Will. Get excited get joyful get motivated about serving God and living your purpose may not always be what we thought or envisioned but that’s what walking with God is your faith is your sight not your eyes !!!
When I choose to rejoice, something shifts inside of me. My obedience stops feeling like pressure and starts feeling like love in actions. It’s no longer about forcing myself to do what’s right-it becomes a response to the joy I feel in knowing God is with me and for me. Rejoicing softens my heart. It reminds me that I’m not walking this path alone, and that changes everything. I begin to obey not out of obligation, but out of trust and gratitude. Even in difficult moments, joy gives me strength to stay aligned, to listen more willingly. When I rejoice, obedience becomes personal. It becomes my way of saying, I trust You . I love You. I’m choosing Your way.
