There’s something I had to be honest with myself about.
I don’t want to live on autopilot.
Not in my life.
Not in my walk with God.
And especially not when it comes to encouraging others.
Because it’s easy to fall into that without even realizing it.
Doing things just because it’s what you’ve always done.
Saying things because it’s what people expect to hear.
Moving through your day without really thinking about what you’re doing.
And before you know it… You’re just going through the motions.
I had to check myself on this.
Because I never want to encourage people in a way that feels routine.
I don’t want to say words.
I want to mean what I say.
I want it to come from a real place.
I want God to be in it.
Because people can feel the difference.
They can tell when something is real… and when it’s just repetition.
And let’s be honest for a moment.
A lot of people are living on autopilot.
Wake up.
Same routine.
Same schedule.
Same mindset.
Same way of thinking.
Go to work the same way.
Go to the same stores.
Eat at the same time.
Talk the same way.
Day after day.
And it feels normal… because it’s familiar.
But just because something is familiar doesn’t mean it’s healthy.
Romans 12:2 (KJV) says:
“Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
That word transformed stands out to me.
Because transformation doesn’t happen when you stay the same.
It happens when something changes.
Autopilot keeps you comfortable.
But comfort can also keep you stuck.
It keeps you in patterns.
It keeps you in habits.
It keeps you doing things the same way… without ever questioning if there’s something better.
And sometimes, we don’t even realize we’re stuck.
Because everything feels “normal.”
Let me say this clearly:
God is not limited to your routine.
We are.
God can move in any way, at any time, through any situation.
But if we are stuck in the mindset of “this is how I always do things,” we can miss what He’s trying to show us.
Even in our walk with God, we can fall into autopilot.
Reading the Word… but not really taking it in.
Praying… but just repeating the same words.
Encouraging others… but not truly connecting.
And that’s not what God wants.
He wants a relationship.
Not routine.
Now don’t get me wrong—we need structure.
We need discipline.
We need consistency.
But there’s a difference between being consistent… and being stuck.
You can still:
Pray
Read your Bible
Meditate
Encourage others
…but not do it the same way every single time.
Sometimes God wants to shift how you do things.
Sometimes He wants you to slow down.
Sometimes He wants you to listen more.
Sometimes He wants you to step out of what feels normal.
But if you’re on autopilot… You won’t even notice.
Colossians 3:10 (KJV) says:
“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”
That means we are supposed to be renewed.
Not stuck.
Not repetitive.
Renewed.
And renewal requires change.
It requires you to step out of what you’re used to.
It requires you to let go of the mindset that says,
“This is just how I do things.”
Because what if God has something better?
I’ve learned that when you allow God to shift you, things start to feel different.
You don’t think the same.
You don’t move the same.
You don’t respond the same.
And at first, it might feel uncomfortable.
Because you’re stepping outside of what you’re used to.
But that discomfort is growth.
Let’s be real—most people don’t like change.
They like what they know.
They like what feels safe.
They like what they can control.
But growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones.
If you keep doing the same thing…
thinking the same way…
moving the same way…
How can anything change?
That’s why sometimes God will push you.
Not to hurt you—but to stretch you.
To show you that there’s more.
More ways to grow.
More ways to think.
More ways to live.
And once God shows you something better…
You won’t want to go back.
Because you’ll realize:
You weren’t really growing before.
You were just repeating.
Ephesians 4:22–24 (KJV) says:
“Put off… the old man… and be renewed… and… put on the new man…”
That means letting go of old patterns.
Old habits.
Old ways of thinking.
And stepping into something new.
Even in encouraging others, I don’t want to be on autopilot.
I don’t want to just say what sounds good.
I don’t want to just repeat what people expect.
I want God to guide what I say.
I want it to be real.
I want it to reach people where they are.
Because when something comes from God…
It hits differently.
It’s not forced.
It’s not rehearsed.
It’s real.
So if you’ve been feeling stuck…
If you’ve been feeling like your days are just repeating…
If you’ve been moving through life without really thinking…
This is your moment to pause.
And ask yourself:
Am I living…
Or am I just repeating?
Because there’s a difference.
And God didn’t create you to live on autopilot.
He created you to grow.
To change.
To be renewed.
Try something different.
Let God lead your day.
Be intentional.
Pay attention.
Step out of your usual routine.
Not by removing God—but by allowing Him to move in new ways.
Because once you step out of autopilot…
You start to actually experience life differently.
You start to hear God differently.
You start to see things you’ve been missing.
And that’s where growth happens.
Reflection Questions
1. Am I living intentionally, or am I just going through the motions?
2. What areas of my life have become routine without purpose?
3. What is one thing I can change today to step out of autopilot?

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Help me not to live on autopilot. Open my eyes to areas where I’ve become stuck in routine without purpose. Renew my mind, guide my steps, and show me how to live intentionally each day. I don’t want to just go through the motions—I want to grow, to hear You clearly, and to move the way You are leading me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Ty 💛
