God as My Counselor — The Best There Ever Is

By Ty | Encouraged by Faith

Meta Description:
A faith-filled devotional about God as our Counselor, why His guidance is unmatched, and how we can turn to Him daily for wisdom, peace, and direction through every situation.

There are many people in this world we can go to for advice, comfort, and guidance. Pastors, parents, family members, friends, mentors, and even professional counselors all play an important role in our lives. I am grateful for the people God has placed around me, and I don’t take that lightly at all.

But there is someone else I can go to who is better than anyone else.

And that is God — my Counselor.

🌿 God Is the Counselor Who Knows Everything

I can go to people I trust, and they may give me good advice. They may listen. They may encourage me. And many times, God uses them to speak into my life. But people can only see what’s in front of them. They don’t always know my whole story. They don’t always know what’s coming next.

God does.

God knows what I need before I even ask. He knows how I should respond, what I should say, what I should let go of, and what I should wait on. He knows how I should handle situations in a way that protects my peace and keeps my heart right.

“For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”
Proverbs 2:6 (KJV)

That’s why God is the best Counselor there ever is. His guidance is always right, even when I don’t understand it at first.

🌿 Grateful for People — But God Is Greater

Don’t get me wrong — I love the people God has placed in my life. I value my pastors, my parents, my family members, and my friends. They have supported me, prayed for me, and walked with me through different seasons.

And sometimes, God speaks through them.

But there are moments when I can’t reach them right away. They may be working. They may be resting. They may be dealing with their own responsibilities. And that’s okay — because they’re human.

But God is always available.

I don’t have to schedule an appointment with Him.
I don’t have to wait for a callback.
I don’t have to worry about bothering Him.

I can talk to God any time of the day, and He’s already listening.

🌿 A Counselor I Can Talk to All Day

One of the things I love most about God as my Counselor is that I can talk to Him throughout the day. I don’t have to wait until something goes wrong. I can talk to Him while I’m driving, working, resting, or thinking.

I can say,
“Lord, help me with this.”
“Lord, I don’t understand this.”
“Lord, give me wisdom.”
“Lord, help me respond the right way.”

And He hears me every time.

“Pray without ceasing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

That verse reminds me that prayer doesn’t have to be long or formal. It can be an ongoing conversation with the One who cares about every detail of my life.

🌿 God Sees What Others Can’t

Sometimes people give advice based on what they see or what they think is best. But God sees deeper. He sees the heart. He sees the motives. He sees what’s hidden. He sees the outcome before it ever happens.

There have been times when I wanted to react one way, but God told me to pause. Times when I wanted to speak, but God told me to be quiet. Times when I wanted to move forward, but God told me to wait.

Looking back, I’m thankful I listened to my Counselor.

“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated.”
James 3:17 (KJV)

God’s counsel always leads to peace — not confusion.

🌿 Professional Counselors Are a Blessing — But God Is Greater

Some people go to counselors or therapists who specialize in certain areas, and that is a blessing. We are grateful for people who are trained to help others heal, grow, and process life.

God can use them, too.

But even with that, God is still greater. God is the One who gives wisdom. God is the One who heals the heart. God is the One who restores the soul.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1 (KJV)

That verse reminds me that when God is leading me, I lack nothing — not wisdom, not peace, and not direction.

🌿 When You’ve Talked to Everyone Else

There comes a time when you’ve talked to everyone you know. You’ve explained the situation. You’ve listened to advice. You’ve tried to figure it out. And still, something feels unsettled.

That’s when you need to call on your Counselor — Jesus.

When I’ve tried everything else and still feel like I need someone to talk to, I go to God. I lay it all out before Him. I don’t hold anything back. I tell Him exactly how I feel.

And every time, He meets me right where I am.

“Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

God never gets tired of hearing from us.

🌿 God’s Counsel Brings Peace

One thing I’ve noticed is that when I truly listen to God’s counsel, peace follows. Even if the situation doesn’t change right away, my heart does.

I may not get immediate answers, but I get reassurance.
I may not know what’s next, but I know God is in control.
I may still be waiting, but I’m no longer anxious.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”
Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)

That peace is something only God can give.

🌿 God as My Counselor Has Changed My Life

Learning to go to God first instead of last has changed my life. Instead of reacting, I pray. Instead of stressing, I seek Him. Instead of leaning on my own understanding, I trust His.

I still value people. I still listen. I still appreciate support. But God is my first Counselor, not my last resort.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being my Counselor and my guide. Thank you for always being available, always listening, and always knowing what I need. Help me to come to You first in every situation. Teach me to trust Your wisdom, follow Your direction, and rest in Your peace. When I feel unsure or overwhelmed, remind me that You are with me and that Your counsel will never lead me wrong.
