Meta Description

Healing begins when we place our hurts into God’s hands. Discover how letting go of pain, disappointment, and unforgiveness allows God to restore your heart and lead you toward peace.

Letting Go and Letting God Heal Your Heart

There comes a time in life when we all have to make a choice.

Do we continue carrying the hurt?

Or do we place it into God’s hands?

If I am honest, letting go is not always easy.

Sometimes we become so used to carrying the pain that it almost feels normal.

We replay conversations in our minds.

We remember what people said.

We remember what they did.

We remember how they made us feel.

Even though the situation may be over, the hurt continues living inside of us.

I know what that feels like.

There have been moments when I had to stop and ask myself, “Why am I still carrying this?”

The answer was simple.

I had not completely given it to God.

I was praying about it, but I was still holding onto it.

God showed me that healing begins when we finally release what we have been trying to carry on our own.

That does not mean we forget what happened.

It does not mean the pain disappears overnight.

It means we stop trying to carry something that only God can heal.

We Were Never Meant to Carry Everything

Have you ever carried a heavy bag for so long that your arms started hurting?

At first, it was not too bad.

You thought you could handle it.

But the longer you carried it, the heavier it became.

Eventually you had to put it down.

That is exactly what happens with emotional pain.

At first we think we are fine.

We tell ourselves we can handle it.

We smile.

We keep moving.

We continue helping everyone else.

But deep inside, the weight keeps getting heavier.

The hurt does not disappear just because we ignore it.

It simply becomes heavier to carry.

I believe that is one reason Jesus tells us to come to Him.

Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Notice what Jesus says.

He does not tell us to carry it a little longer.

He does not tell us to figure it out on our own.

He invites us to bring it to Him.

That invitation still stands today.

Letting Go Is Not Giving Up

For a long time, I thought letting go meant giving up.

I thought it meant pretending something never happened.

I thought it meant acting like I was never hurt.

God helped me see it differently.

Letting go is not pretending.

It is trusting.

It is saying,

“Lord, this hurt is bigger than me.”

“I cannot fix it.”

“I cannot change what happened.”

“But I know You can heal my heart.”

That takes faith.

Because we like holding onto things we think we can control.

Healing begins when we stop trying to control everything ourselves.

Sometimes the Hardest Thing to Release Is the Question “Why?”

One thing I struggled with was wanting answers.

Why did this happen?

Why did they treat me that way?

Why did God allow it?

Those questions can stay in our minds for a long time.

Sometimes we receive answers.

Sometimes we do not.

I have learned that if I spend my life waiting for every answer, I may never experience peace.

There are things only God understands.

Instead of demanding answers, I have learned to trust His heart.

Even when I do not understand His ways.

That has brought me more peace than any explanation ever could.

God Heals One Layer at a Time

Healing is not usually instant.

I wish I could say we pray one prayer and every hurt disappears.

Sometimes God works that way.

Many times He heals us little by little.

Just when we think we are completely healed, another memory surfaces.

Another emotion appears.

Another conversation reminds us of the past.

That does not mean we are moving backward.

Sometimes God is simply healing another layer.

Think about peeling an onion.

You remove one layer.

Then another.

Then another.

Healing often happens the same way.

God knows exactly what we are ready to deal with.

He never rushes the process.

And He never leaves us in the middle of it.

Stop Picking the Hurt Back Up

Have you ever prayed about something and then immediately started worrying about it again?

I know I have.

I told God I trusted Him.

Then I picked the burden right back up.

It is almost like giving someone a gift and then taking it back.

Sometimes we do the same thing with our pain.

We pray.

We cry.

We surrender it.

Then the next day we replay everything all over again.

God has been teaching me to leave it in His hands.

That does not mean painful thoughts never come back.

They will.

When they do, I remind myself,

“I already gave this to God.”

Then I choose not to carry it again.

That choice has become part of my healing.

Healing Requires Honesty

One thing I appreciate about God is that I do not have to pretend with Him.

He already knows how I feel.

If I am hurt, He knows.

If I am disappointed, He knows.

If I am confused, He knows.

So why pretend?

There have been prayers where I simply told God exactly how I felt.

Not because He needed the information.

Because I needed to release it.

Healing begins when we stop hiding behind “I’m fine.”

God can handle our tears.

He can handle our questions.

He can handle our broken hearts.

He is not asking us to be strong all the time.

He is asking us to come to Him.

You Cannot Heal While Holding On

One lesson God continues teaching me is this:

Whatever I refuse to release, I continue to carry.

If I keep holding onto resentment…

I carry it.

If I keep holding onto disappointment…

I carry it.

If I keep holding onto yesterday…

I carry it.

Eventually, that weight affects every part of my life.

My peace.

My joy.

My relationships.

My thinking.

That is why letting go is so important.

Not because what happened did not matter.

But because I matter too.

God does not want me spending the rest of my life carrying wounds He wants to heal.

He wants me free.

Free to smile again.

Free to trust again.

Free to enjoy life again.

Free to experience His peace.

That freedom begins the moment I decide to place my heart in His hands.

God Is Gentle With Broken Hearts

One of the things I love most about God is His gentleness.

He never forces healing.

He walks with us through it.

He understands every tear.

Every disappointment.

Every sleepless night.

Every unanswered question.

He knows what it feels like to be rejected.

To be misunderstood.

To be betrayed.

That is why I know He understands my heart better than anyone else ever could.

Psalm 147:3 (KJV)

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

I love that promise.

Not because it says life will never hurt.

But because it reminds me that when it does, I know exactly where to go.

God is still in the business of healing broken hearts.

Forgiveness Is Part of the Healing Process

One thing I have learned is that healing and forgiveness often walk together.

Now let me be clear.

Forgiveness does not mean what happened was acceptable.

It does not mean you suddenly trust the person again.

It does not mean you forget what they did.

Forgiveness means you are choosing not to let the hurt continue controlling your life.

I know that can be difficult.

Some wounds cut deep.

Some words stay with us for years.

Some disappointments leave scars that only God can heal.

I have had moments where I had to ask God to help me forgive because I could not do it by myself.

That was one of the hardest prayers I ever prayed.

But it was also one of the most freeing.

The more I gave my hurt to God, the lighter my heart became.

Forgiveness was not something I accomplished overnight.

It was something I chose day after day.

Every time the hurt tried to return, I reminded myself that I had already placed it in God’s hands.

Healing Does Not Mean You Never Feel the Pain Again

Sometimes people believe that once God heals you, you will never think about the situation again.

That has not been my experience.

There are moments when a memory comes back.

A place reminds you of what happened.

A conversation brings it back to your mind.

The difference is this:

It no longer controls you.

What once brought tears now reminds you of how faithful God has been.

What once kept you awake at night becomes part of your testimony.

The pain may still be remembered, but it no longer owns your heart.

That is what healing looks like.

God does not always erase the memory.

Sometimes He changes what the memory means.

Instead of reminding you only of your pain, it reminds you of His faithfulness.

Trust God With the Pieces

Have you ever dropped something made of glass?

Once it breaks, you cannot put it back together exactly the way it was.

Relationships can feel like that.

So can our hearts.

There are moments when life leaves us feeling broken into pieces.

We wonder if we will ever feel whole again.

I am thankful that God specializes in restoring broken things.

He does not look at our brokenness and walk away.

He gently begins putting the pieces back together.

Not always the way they were before.

Sometimes He creates something even stronger.

That is what I love about God.

He knows how to bring beauty out of brokenness.

He knows how to restore hope where disappointment once lived.

He knows how to replace fear with peace.

We simply have to trust Him with the pieces.

Your Pain Can Become Someone Else’s Hope

One thing I never realized while I was hurting was that God could use my story to encourage someone else.

When we are in the middle of pain, we usually focus on surviving.

We are not thinking about helping anyone else.

But after God begins healing us, something beautiful happens.

Our testimony becomes a source of hope.

Someone else hears your story and realizes they are not alone.

Someone else discovers that healing is possible.

Someone else finds the courage to keep trusting God because they see what He has done in your life.

That is one reason I believe God never wastes our pain.

He can use even our hardest seasons for His glory.

Romans 8:28 (KJV)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”

That does not mean everything that happened was good.

It means God is able to bring good from it.

Only He can do that.

Choose Peace Every Day

Healing is not only one big decision.

Sometimes it is a daily choice.

Every morning we choose peace.

We choose forgiveness.

We choose trust.

We choose to believe that God is still working.

Some days those choices feel easy.

Other days they require faith.

When painful memories return, remind yourself that your future is not found in your past.

God has already gone before you.

He is leading you toward healing, not back into the hurt.

I love peace.

I have learned that protecting my peace sometimes means leaving certain conversations.

Sometimes it means creating healthy boundaries.

Sometimes it means spending more time in God’s presence than I spend replaying yesterday’s pain.

Peace is a gift from God.

I do not want to trade that gift for something He has already asked me to release.

Your Heart Is Safe With God

There is no safer place for your heart than in God’s hands.

People may disappoint us.

People may misunderstand us.

People may leave.

People may say things that hurt us deeply.

God never does.

His love never changes.

His faithfulness never ends.

His promises never fail.

When I finally understood that, I stopped trying to find complete healing in people.

People can encourage us.

People can pray with us.

People can walk beside us.

But only God can completely heal a broken heart.

That realization changed my life.

Final Thoughts

If there is one thing I hope you remember, it is this:

You do not have to carry your pain forever.

You may not be able to change what happened.

You may never receive the apology you hoped for.

You may never understand every reason why.

But you can still experience healing.

God is not asking you to pretend you were never hurt.

He is inviting you to trust Him with your hurt.

That is where healing begins.

I know letting go is not easy because I have had to do it myself.

I know what it feels like to pray while still carrying pain.

I know what it feels like to ask God questions that seem to have no answers.

But I also know what it feels like to experience His peace.

A peace that slowly replaces the hurt.

A peace that reminds you He has never left your side.

A peace that allows you to smile again.

Today, I want to encourage you to take one step.

You do not have to let go of everything at once.

Simply begin by placing one hurt into God’s hands.

Then tomorrow, do it again.

Trust Him with the pieces of your heart.

Allow Him to heal what you cannot heal yourself.

One day you will look back and realize that what once felt impossible became part of your testimony.

Not because you were strong enough.

But because God was faithful enough.

He is still healing hearts today.

And yours is not beyond His reach.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving me even when my heart is hurting. Thank You for seeing every tear, every disappointment, and every burden I have been carrying. You know the places in my heart that still need healing, and I ask You to gently work in those areas.

Help me let go of the pain I have been holding onto. Teach me to trust You with what I cannot change and to believe that Your healing is greater than my hurt. Give me the strength to forgive, the courage to move forward, and the wisdom to leave my burdens in Your hands instead of picking them back up again.

Fill my heart with Your peace. Replace bitterness with grace, fear with faith, and sadness with hope. Remind me every day that I am never walking through this journey alone because You are with me.

Thank You for being the One who restores what is broken and makes all things new. I trust You with my heart, my healing, and my future.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

With Love,

Ty 🤍
