God’s goodness shows up in every season of life. Learn how to recognize His blessings, trust His faithfulness, and develop a grateful heart for all He has done.
God’s Goodness Is All Around Us
There are so many things in life that we can be thankful for, but one of the greatest blessings we experience every day is the goodness of God.
His goodness is steady.
His goodness is faithful.
His goodness never changes.
No matter what season we find ourselves in, God’s goodness remains the same.
Sometimes we see it clearly.
Sometimes we overlook it.
And sometimes we do not recognize it until we look back and realize God was working all along.
When I think about the goodness of God, I cannot help but be thankful.
Not just for what He does.
But for who He is.
Because God is good, whether life is going smoothly or whether life feels difficult.
His goodness is not based on our circumstances.
His goodness is part of His character.
And that alone gives us a reason to praise Him.
Looking Back Helps Us See God’s Goodness
One thing I have learned is that sometimes we do not recognize God’s goodness until we look back.
When we are going through something, it is easy to focus on:
- The struggle
- The delay
- The disappointment
- The uncertainty
But when we look back, we often realize God was carrying us the entire time.
I can look back over my life and see moments when God protected me.
Moments when He provided.
Moments when He opened doors.
Moments when He closed doors.
At the time, I did not always understand what He was doing.
But now I can see His hand in those situations.
Some of the things I prayed for happened.
Some of the things I wanted never happened.
And honestly, I thank God for both.
Because His goodness was working in every situation.
Even the ones I did not understand.
God’s Goodness Shows Up Through His Patience
One reason I am thankful for God’s goodness is His patience.
God is patient with us.
Think about that.
How many times have we:
- Made mistakes?
- Complained?
- Doubted?
- Been impatient?
Yet God continues loving us.
He continues teaching us.
He continues guiding us.
He does not throw us away when we fall short.
Instead, He gives us another opportunity to grow.
π Psalm 145:8 (KJV)
“The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.”
That scripture reminds me that God is patient.
And honestly, I am grateful for that.
Because I know I have not gotten everything right.
But God’s goodness continues showing up anyway.
God’s Goodness Provides What We Need
Another reason I am thankful for God’s goodness is His provision.
God always knows what we need.
Now, that does not mean we get everything we want.
But God knows exactly what we need and when we need it.
Sometimes His provision comes through:
- Opportunities
- Family
- Friends
- Unexpected blessings
Other times it comes through:
- Peace
- Wisdom
- Strength
- Direction
Many people think provision is only about money.
But God’s provision is much bigger than that.
Sometimes the greatest thing God provides is the strength to keep going.
Sometimes it is wisdom for a decision.
Sometimes it is peace during a difficult season.
And every bit of it is evidence of His goodness.
π Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
God’s Goodness Gives Us Peace
Life can be overwhelming.
There are days when we do not know what to do.
Days when everything feels uncertain.
Days when we have more questions than answers.
But God’s goodness often shows up through His peace.
There have been times in my life when I did not know how things were going to work out.
Yet somehow, God gave me peace.
Not because I had all the answers.
But because He reminded me He was still in control.
That peace is part of His goodness.
And honestly, it is one of the greatest gifts He gives us.
God’s Goodness Protects Us
This is something we do not always think about.
There are things God has protected us from that we may never know about.
Think about that.
There are:
- Accidents He prevented
- Situations He blocked
- Doors He kept closed
- Problems He kept us away from
And many times, we never even realize it.
We may get frustrated when a door closes.
But later, we discover that the closed door was actually protection.
That is the goodness of God.
He sees what we cannot see.
He knows what is ahead.
And He protects us in ways we may never fully understand.
Let’s Make This Practical
Sometimes people hear about God’s goodness but struggle to recognize it in everyday life.
Here are some practical ways to become more aware of God’s goodness.
1. Keep a Gratitude Journal
Write down three things each day that you are thankful for.
They do not have to be big things.
Sometimes the smallest blessings reveal God’s goodness.
2. Look Back at Past Prayers
Think about the prayers God has already answered.
Remembering what He has done strengthens our faith for what He will do.
3. Stop Focusing Only on What Is Missing
Many times, we become discouraged because we focus on what we do not have.
Instead, take time to appreciate what God has already given you.
4. Thank God Daily
Do not wait for something major to happen before thanking Him.
Thank Him:
- For waking you up
- For your family
- For your health
- For His protection
- For His peace
- For His Grace
- For His mercy
- For His Love
- For your job
- For your finances
- For your food
Gratitude helps us recognize His goodness more clearly.
5. Share Your Testimony
Tell people what God has done for you.
Your story may encourage someone who is struggling to trust Him.
Difficult Seasons Do Not Mean God Is Not Good
This is something important to understand.
Many people think God’s goodness is only present when life is easy.
But that is not true.
God is still good during:
- Trials
- Delays
- Disappointments
- Difficult seasons
In fact, some of our greatest growth happens during hard times.
Looking back, I can see situations that felt difficult at the time but ultimately made me stronger.
They taught me:
- Dependence on God
- Patience
- Faith
Those seasons were not comfortable.
But they were valuable.
And that is part of God’s goodness, too.
π Romans 8:28 (KJV)
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”
The More We Notice God’s Goodness, the More Thankful We Become
Gratitude changes our perspective.
When we start paying attention to God’s goodness, we begin noticing blessings we used to overlook.
We become more thankful.
More appreciative.
More aware of His presence in our lives.
And honestly, that is something many of us need.
Because it is easy to focus on problems.
It is easy to focus on what has not happened yet.
But gratitude reminds us of what God has already done.
Final Thought: God Has Been Better to Us Than We Realize
If we are honest, God has been better to us than we sometimes realize.
He has:
- Protected us
- Guided us
- Provided for us
- Comforted us
- Strengthened us
Even during seasons when we did not fully recognize it.
That is why I am thankful for God’s goodness.
Not just because of what He does.
But because of who He is.
His goodness is faithful.
His goodness is constant.
His goodness is everlasting.
And no matter what season we are in, we can trust that His goodness is still at work.
So today, take a moment and thank Him.
Thank Him for what you see.
Thank Him for what you do not see.
Thank Him for the doors He opened.
Thank Him for the doors He closed.
Thank Him for His protection.
Thank Him for His peace.
Thank Him for His goodness.
Because He truly has been good to us all.
